onion extract

Shanaya

I am feeling really frustrated with all these issues I’ve been having lately. A couple months ago, I started experiencing this weird skin irritation, like a rash that just wouldn’t go away. Thought it was an allergy or something but no luck. After visiting my doc, they suggested trying onion extract because apparently, it’s supposed to help with inflammation and stuff. I did some research and got some onion extract supplements. It sounded promising since I read that onion extract works well for skin issues. but honestly, I don’t know if they’re doing anything for me. I’ve been taking them for about three weeks now but the rash just seems constant, and I’m not seeing any improvement at all. Plus, I started getting these weird headaches — not sure if it’s related to the onion extract or just the stress from worrying so much about this skin thing. Has anyone else had experience with onion extract? Like, does it really take time to work, or could it be that I’m not using the right kind? Should I be taking more, or is there maybe a better way to use onion extract? I’m kinda tired of feeling like this, and I just want to feel better already! Any advice would be super helpful!

Doctors' responses

While onion extract has been credited with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, the evidence supporting its effectiveness for skin conditions is somewhat limited. It’s especially not first-line treatment for persistent skin rashes. When it comes to skin issues like rashes, it’s more crucial to identify and manage the underlying cause, whether it’s allergens, irritants, infections, or another condition. Since you’re not noticing any improvement after three weeks, and you’ve developed headaches, it’s wise to consider a few actions. First, discontinue the onion extract to see if the headaches resolve, which could indicate a sensitivity to the supplement. Document any other new symptoms that may arise, as this information is essential for further medical evaluation. Check the ingredients list on your supplements, as fillers or additives could also be a factor. Secondly, revisit your healthcare provider. Since the rash persists, a more in-depth evaluation is necessary, potentially including allergy testing or skin biopsy, depending on your symptoms. They might identify a common skin condition like eczema or psoriasis, and prescribe appropriate topical or systemic treatments. The headaches could be linked to stress, so simple self-care strategies like maintaining a regular sleep schedule, hydration, and perhaps mindfulness can help alleviate them. Remember, self-medicating without clear evidence, particularly with supplements, can lead to unforeseen issues or delay appropriate treatment. In the meantime, manage stress as best you can and keep a symptom journal; it might offer clues for your healthcare provider.
