how to get rid of acne and pimples - #14775

Rian

I am really struggling with my skin right now and need some advice on how to get rid of acne and pimples! I've dealt with acne since my teenage years, but lately, it's gotten worse. I’m 24 now, and despite trying everything from over-the-counter creams to natural remedies, nothing seems to work. Like, I’ve changed my diet thinking it would help but nope! I also tried this fancy facial wash recommended by a friend, and my skin just got even more irritated—talk about frustrating! The breakout is mostly around my cheeks and jawline, and every time I think it's clearing up, bam, here comes another explosion of pimples. I do have a pretty regular skincare routine but still wonder how to get rid of acne and pimples for good. Should I see a dermatologist? Or maybe there's just something I haven’t tried yet? I feel like I’ve read a million tips on how to get rid of acne and pimples, but nothing sticks. The struggle is REAL! If anyone has solid, personal experiences or tips on how to tackle this, please share! I don’t want to feel self-conscious anymore!

Doctors’ responses

First, consider that adult acne, particularly along the cheeks and jawline, may have a few contributing factors like hormonal fluctuations, stress, or even your regular skincare products causing irritation. You mentioned trying various things without success, so it might be time to consult a dermatologist. They can provide prescriptions like topical retinoids or oral medications, such as antibiotics or even hormonal treatments like spironolactone, which might be particularly effective if your acne is hormonally driven. In terms of self-care, keep your skincare routine simple to avoid further irritation. Use a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser twice daily and look for moisturizers and products labeled as non-comedogenic to avoid clogging pores. Consider incorporating a product with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, as they can help clear existing acne while preventing new spots. However, patch test any new product first to check for irritation. Lastly, lifestyle changes like gradually identifying any dietary triggers (e.g., dairy or high-glycemic foods could play a role for some people), managing stress through methods like exercise or mindfulness, and ensuring adequate sleep can all support skin health. Don’t get discouraged—working with a healthcare provider who can offer tailored treatment may help you find a more effective solution.
