what does bleach do to face - #14790

Shaurya

I am really freaking out about what I did to my face last week. I was at a friend's house and she mentioned that putting bleach on the skin could, like, help with spots and stuff. I thought, why not try it?! I mean, some people say it makes their complexion better and I really wanted to lighten up this, like, hyperpigmentation I've been dealing with. Long story short, I mixed a tiny bit of bleach with water—probably not even the right ratio—and applied it for just a few minutes. I know, so dumb. Afterwards, my face was super red, like, really irritated!!! I freaked out and washed it off right away but I'm just wondering, like, what does bleach do to face skin actually? Is it normal for it to get red? Will it go away or am I permanently damaging my skin? Also, should I be using aloe vera or something else to help calm it down? I really didn't think this would happen. Are there safe alternatives to lighten spots instead of using bleach? I just need to know—what does bleach do to face skin, really? Help!

Bleach is a harsh chemical and not meant to be applied directly to facial skin. It’s primarily used for disinfecting, and its application on skin can lead to irritation, burns, and possibly chemical burns if undiluted or improperly diluted. The redness and irritation you experienced are common reactions when bleach contacts the skin like on your face, because it can strip away moisture and damage the outer layers. Temporary redness might subside, but it’s crucial to keep an eye on any worsening symptoms. If you notice blistering, persistent pain, or increased redness, you should reach out to a healthcare professional right away as this could indicate a more serious chemical burn needing medical evaluation. In terms of soothing the current irritation, applying aloe vera can help because of its anti-inflammatory properties. A gentle moisturizer might aid in skin recovery too, but avoid harsh or exfoliating products while healing. Importantly, when looking at lightening hyperpigmentation safely, options such as vitamin C serums, niacinamide, and safe topical retinoids are often recommended. Consult with a dermatologist to develop a personalized and safe skin care regimen. They might offer safer and more effective treatments like chemical peels or professional-grade lightening creams. Lastly, ensure you use sunscreen daily, as UV protection is crucial when managing pigmentation issues.
