dry pimple on face - #14932

Shivansh

I am kind of freaking out about this dry pimple on my face that just popped up outta nowhere. Like, one day I’m fine, and the next, BAM, this annoying lump is there, and it’s all dry but still feels kinda raised? I've tried using some moisturizer and even a bit of my acne cream, but honestly, it just seems to make it weirder. I mean, I've had pimples before, right? But this dry pimple on my face is just different, like it's not really turning into a full-on pimple but just hangs around. I was thinking maybe it’s because of the weather? I live in a really dry area and haven't changed my skincare routine for a while. Also, my stress level has been crazy lately; I'm not sure if that plays a part. Has anyone ever dealt with a dry pimple on face like this? Should I just leave it alone or try something else? Ugh, I really don’t want to make it worse! I read somewhere that you shouldn't pop it? I’m just scared it’s gonna get infected or turn into something worse. Any advice or remedies would be totally appreciated!

Doctors’ responses

It’s not uncommon for skin anomalies to pop up unexpectedly, and dry pimples can be one of those frustrating surprises. A dry pimple typically happens when there’s a clogged pore due to excess oil, dead skin cells, or external factors like changes in weather, which you’ve mentioned being dry. The fact that it feels different from usual pimples could be due to the dryness affecting the skin’s surface, possibly making it more sensitive. Stress can indeed influence your skin condition, potentially exacerbating pimples due to increased oil production stimulated by stress hormones. Concerning treatment, you’ve got the right idea by avoiding popping it, as doing so can definitely lead to infection or worsened irritation. Since you live in a dry climate, moisturizing is crucial, but be sure to use a non-comedogenic moisturizer to avoid blocking pores further. It might be beneficial to simplify your skincare routine if it’s complex, ensuring gentleness and avoiding excessive active ingredients that could dry out or irritate the skin further. Hydration from inside is also important, so drink plenty water throughout the day. If your acne cream is making it worse, it might be drying – consider hydrating hyaluronic acid or niacinamide serums which can support skin barrier without irritation. If the pimple doesn’t improve or becomes painful or inflamed, considering a visit to a healthcare provider is wise. They might recommend a topical treatment or check if an underlying condition is contributing to this symptom. Also, use sunscreen daily, as it prevents post-inflammatory pigmentation, which might be a consideration here. Stay aware of your stress levels too, as managing these could benefit your overall skin health.
