pimples below nose - #15959

Agastya

I am super frustrated right now. A couple of weeks ago, I started getting these annoying pimples below my nose, like they just popped up outta nowhere! I thought maybe it was just a random hormonal thing, but it’s been like a festering problem. I tried using some over-the-counter creams, and I even switched face wash, but nada. The pimples below my nose just make me wanna hide my face, ya know? I don’t even wear makeup often but when I do, it’s like it just gets all cakey around there and highlights the pimples below my nose even more! I also wondered could it be from all the masks I’ve been wearing, like maybe it’s causing irritation? Last week, I read some stuff that said it might be related to skin care products or even stress. Ugh, I don’t wanna believe that! Should I see a dermatologist about these pimples below my nose, or could my regular doctor help? Any tips or remedies? Anything that worked for you would be awesome! I’m just really needing a solution here because it's getting kinda ridiculous.

Doctors' responses

Pimples below the nose can be quite persistent and frustrating, especially when over-the-counter treatments don’t seem to be working. These breakouts can be due to a combination of factors like hormonal changes, skin irritation from mask-wearing—sometimes called “maskne,” stress, or reaction to specific skincare products. Masks can trap moisture and oil against your skin, promoting the growth of acne. Switching face washes and trying new products can sometimes irritate the skin more if they contain harsh chemicals or fragrances, which might explain the lack of improvement. Using a gentle cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help unclog pores and reduce inflammation, but be careful not to overuse them as these products can dry out the skin. Try limiting your skincare routine to minimal, fragrance-free products and avoid heavy makeup that can further clog pores. Ensure you wash your masks after each use and consider using disposable ones if skin sensitivity persists. Stress indeed can worsen acne by increasing cortisol levels, so engage in stress-reducing activities like exercise or meditation. Seeing a dermatologist can provide more targeted treatment like prescription medications or procedures tailored to your skin type and condition. However, your general doctor is also a good starting point since they can assess the severity and offer prescriptions if necessary. They might recommend topical retinoids or antibiotics that are not available over the counter. If the condition worsens or doesn’t improve after trying these measures, professional medical advice should be the next step.
