liver in which side of the body - #15978

Shreya

I am feeling really confused and worried about something that’s been bothering me for a while. I’ve been having this dull pain, mostly in my upper right abdomen, and I keep hearing people mention the liver but I don’t exactly know where it is. Like, can somebody tell me the liver in which side of the body can I find? I mean, I thought it was on the left or something, but now I’m not so sure. I talked to a friend and they said it’s on the right side, and that freaked me out a bit, since my pain is on that side! I also started feeling like I get this full sensation even when I haven’t eaten much and I’ve been really fatigued lately. Plus, I sometimes have this weird nausea that just hits me out of nowhere. I haven’t gone to a doc yet because I kinda thought it would pass, but I’ve had it for weeks now. I just can’t shake the question, the liver in which side of the body is supposed to be functioning well, right? Any thoughts on what I should do or if this is just symptoms of something normal? I’m kind of freaking out thinking about it being serious.

The liver is located on the right side of your abdomen, just below the diaphragm and predominantly in the upper right quadrant. Given the location of your symptoms and the fact that you’re experiencing a combination of these, it would be best not to ignore them. The sensations you’re describing—dull pain in the upper right abdomen, a feeling of fullness, fatigue, and nausea—could be indicative of a number of conditions. From common issues like gallstones or fatty liver disease to more serious conditions like hepatitis or liver inflammation, these symptoms are quite varied in what they might point to, making it important to assess them further.

It’s crucial to see a healthcare provider for a proper evaluation. Your provider will likely want to discuss your symptoms in detail and may recommend tests like blood panels, ultrasound, or other imaging studies to get a clearer picture of what might be going on. Additionally, lifestyle factors can have a substantial impact on liver health—such as diet, alcohol consumption, and exercise—so be ready to discuss these aspects with your doctor. They can help tailor a clear strategy for managing your symptoms based on the diagnosis. Please don’t delay in seeking medical attention, as early intervention can make a significant difference in outcomes and reduce the risk of complications. Make an appointment at your earliest convenience, to ensure your liver is functioning as well as keeping an eye on overall health.
