electric vape side effects - #16071

Om

I am really confused and kinda worried about this whole electric vape side effects thing. A few months ago, I started using an electric vape thinking it would be a safer alternative to smoking, you know? But since then, I’ve been having these weird symptoms. First, I noticed that I was coughing a lot more than usual. I just brushed it off at first, but then the other day, I felt this tightness in my chest after vaping, and it totally freaked me out. Also, I've been getting really dizzy at times, like, more than just a little lightheaded. I thought it could just be me overdoing it, but I’m really starting to wonder if it’s connected to these electric vape side effects. Anyone else experience this? My friends are saying I should just quit, but honestly, it’s hard to let go. Then there's the whole thing about lung issues, right? I read somewhere that some people even had to go to the hospital because of electric vape side effects. I don’t want that to happen to me! Have any of you been through something like this or know more about what these electric vape side effects might actually be? It feels like I’m stuck in a loop of questions with no answers. Just looking for some guidance or insights, please!

Doctors’ responses

It’s understandable to have concerns about the side effects of using an electric vape. Vaping has been marketed as a safer alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes, but it’s not without potential risks. The symptoms you’re describing—persistent coughing, chest tightness, and dizziness—could indeed be related to your vaping. These symptoms are often reported among vape users. The liquids used in vapes contain various chemicals, including propylene glycol, glycerin, nicotine, and flavoring agents, which can irritate the respiratory system. Coughing and chest tightness might be signs that your lungs are reacting to these substances. Dizziness could be from nicotine, as its concentration can vary in vape liquid, sometimes leading to overconsumption if used in high amounts or frequently. There have been reports of more severe lung issues, sometimes referred to as EVALI (e-cigarette, or vaping, product use-associated lung injury), which have landed people in hospitals. This condition is typically linked to certain ingredients, like Vitamin E acetate, used in some THC vape liquids, although nicotine vapes have also been associated with respiratory problems. If these symptoms persist or worsen, it’s important to see a healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation. They may suggest reducing your vape use or stopping altogether, especially if your symptoms are significantly interfering with your daily life. Quitting can be challenging, but there’re resources and strategies available that can help, like nicotine replacement therapies or behavioral support, tailored to assist you through the process. If you’re experiencing severe symptoms, such as significant breathing difficulties, chest pain, or persistent dizziness, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical attention as these could be signs of more serious health issues requiring urgent care.
