home remedies for motions - #17041

Dhruv

I am really worried about this weird stomach issue I've been having lately. For about a week now, I have been dealing with this constant motion problem! It's like my stomach just won't settle! I feel like I need to run to the bathroom all the time. I can't even go out with my friends cause I'm scared I might have an accident. I know this might sound silly but, I've tried to look for home remedies for motions since I'm a bit hesitant about seeing a doctor right away. I've heard things like ginger tea or cinnamon could help but honestly, I don't know if that's really gonna work?! Between the random cramping and bloating, it's become impossible to enjoy anything! I read about some home remedies for motions online, like taking yogurt or drinking mint tea, but I'm not sure which ones are the best! Have any of you dealt with this and found effective home remedies for motions? What’s worked for you? Or should I just bite the bullet and go to the doc? Ugh, it's just so frustrating!

Doctors’ responses

For dealing with ongoing motions and frequent trips to the bathroom, it’s crucial to get to the root cause. If this has been happening for about a week, it may be time to consult a healthcare professional if things don’t improve soon. However, there are some home remedies you could try that might provide relief if the symptoms are mild and you’re otherwise feeling well. Firstly, ensure you’re staying hydrated. Constant loose motions can lead to dehydration, so it’s essential to drink water or consider an oral rehydration solution to maintain your electrolyte balance. Eating plain rice, bananas, or toast could help as they are bland and easy on the stomach. Yogurt is also a good choice because it contains probiotics, which can help restore the healthy bacteria in your gut. Ginger tea is another option you mentioned, which can aid in soothing an upset stomach and reducing cramping, and may provide some relief. Warm fennel tea might help with bloating. Peppermint or mint tea may also alleviate bloating and cramps, providing a calming effect on the digestive system. Reduce intake of caffeine, dairy products, or very high-fiber foods for a while as they might exacerbate symptoms. If you have any red-flag symptoms like blood in stools, fever, severe dehydration, or any worsening of symptoms, please seek medical attention promptly. For persistent issues, documenting what you eat and aligning it with symptom patterns might reveal potential food intolerances. Consistently occurring symptoms should definitely prompt a visit to your healthcare provider to rule out any underlying condition. Meanwhile, ensure to prioritize rest and avoid stress, which can sometimes worsen gastrointestinal issues.
