medicine for indigestion and loose motion - #17077

Mahi

I am dealing with these super frustrating stomach issues! Like, it started about a week ago when I had this big meal and ever since then, I’ve been having really bad dizziness and it seems like every other day I'm running to the bathroom, ya know? The loose motions are just awful, and I can't seem to eat anything without feeling nauseous. I went to the doc and they mentioned it's probably indigestion but didn't give me any solid recommendations for medicine for indigestion and loose motion. I’ve tried some over-the-counter stuff, but it doesn’t seem to help much. I’m worried because it’s now been a whole week! I just want to go back to my normal life. Has anyone else had to deal with such random indigestion and loose motion issues? Is there a specific medicine for indigestion and loose motion that actually works? Like, I don’t wanna keep wasting my time and money on things that don’t help! Also, any tips on diet or home remedies would be super helpful, any ideas? Just trying to figure this all out before I lose my mind over my stomach acting like this!

Doctors’ responses

For your symptoms of indigestion and loose motions, there are a few steps you can take to manage the situation, including medication options and lifestyle measures. Firstly, it’s important to address the loose motion or diarrhea. Loperamide is an effective over-the-counter medication that helps reduce bowel movements and firm up stools. However, if you’re experiencing any fever, blood in stools, or severe pain, it’s crucial to discontinue loperamide and seek medical attention, as these could be signs of a more serious condition that requires different management. For indigestion, antacids like Tums or Rolaids can provide quick relief by neutralizing stomach acid, while medications like ranitidine or famotidine reduce acid production and might prevent further irritation. If nausea is a significant problem, antiemetic medications like Meclizine can be helpful. When it comes to diet, try to stick to bland, easy-to-digest foods such as bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast (the BRAT diet) as they can be comforting and less irritating to your stomach. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, including electrolyte solutions or oral rehydration salts if the diarrhea persists, to prevent dehydration. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, and heavy, fatty meals which can exacerbate your symptoms. If these symptoms persist beyond a week despite these measures, or if they worsen, it’s important to follow up with your healthcare provider because ongoing symptoms may need further investigation or treatment adjustment. Managing stress through relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or gentle yoga may also help with digestive issues. Remember, when dealing with ongoing or severe symptoms, personal attention from a healthcare professional is always the best course of action.
