can we eat ghee in dengue - #17203

Arnav

I am worried about my sister who just got diagnosed with dengue. She started having fever about 5 days ago and now has a rash and some joint pain. The doctor said it's mild, which is a relief, but we're all still really concerned. I heard from my neighbor that ghee is good for recovery and all but then I saw some articles that suggested avoiding fatty foods when sick, which made me think. Can we eat ghee in dengue? She's feeling really weak and her appetite is not too great, and honestly, I want to make sure she's getting the right nutrition without making things worse. Like, I read online that ghee is supposed to be good for digestion and has all these benefits, but is it safe during dengue? My mom is worried too and insists that ghee can help her regain strength faster. But now I’m confused! Can we eat ghee in dengue or should we just stick to simple, bland foods? This whole situation is stressful and I just want to do what's best for her health. If you guys have any advice or insights based on real experiences, that would be super helpful!

In the context of dengue fever, nutrition plays an important role in supporting recovery, and it’s essential to focus on a well-balanced, light diet that aids digestion and maintains hydration levels. As for ghee, while it’s traditionally considered beneficial for digestion and energy in some cultures, it’s not particularly recommended during dengue, especially since it’s a high-fat food. In dengue, the goal is to keep the diet light and easily digestible to prevent any strain on the digestive system, which can be somewhat compromised due to the illness. Instead, your sister should concentrate on consuming plenty of fluids — water, oral rehydration solutions, coconut water, and clear broths are excellent options that can help maintain electrolyte balance and prevent dehydration. Small, frequent meals including easily digestible foods such as rice, oats, dairy like yogurt, and boiled vegetables are apt for maintaining energy levels without overloading the digestive system. It’s critically important to watch for red-flag symptoms like persistent severe abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding under the skin, fatigue, or any other sudden changes, as these can indicate a severe form of dengue requiring immediate medical attention. Consult with your healthcare provider to tailor dietary advice according to her specific condition, and ensure continuous monitoring for any complications. Remember, individualized medical advice from her doctor is best since they have a full picture of her health status and can provide guidance accordingly.
