how to clean face daily - #17719

Diya

I am struggling with my skincare routine, and I just don't know how to clean face daily, like, the right way. A couple of months ago I started breaking out a lot, which is super frustrating since I thought I had good skin before. I tried different soaps, but nothing seemed to work. I mean, I wash my face every morning and night, but I don't think I do it properly. I don't want to irritate my skin more, especially since it feels sensitive lately. I’ve read online about all these products and methods on how to clean face daily, but it's overwhelming! Like, should I use just water, or do I need a fancy cleanser? And what about exfoliating – how often should I do that? Sometimes I feel like my face still feels dirty even after washing it, ya know? Then there's the whole toning thing – is that necessary for how to clean face daily? Any tips on the right way to do it? I’m really hoping to clear up this mess and get back to my skin being normal again! Thanks a bunch in advance!

To properly clean your face daily, start by choosing a gentle cleanser, ideally one that’s suited for your skin type – whether oily, dry, or sensitive. Avoid soaps, as they’re often too harsh and can strip your skin of its natural oils, causing irritation, especially if your skin is already sensitive. When washing your face, do it twice a day, morning and night, using lukewarm water. Hot water can further irritate the skin and cool water might not effectively lift away dirt and oil. Apply your cleanser in gentle, circular motions using your fingertips and be cautious around the delicate areas like your eyes. It’s essential to rinse thoroughly to ensure no residue is left behind, which can lead to more breakouts.

Exfoliating is another step to consider, but over-exfoliating can aggravate your skin. Generally, exfoliate 1-2 times weekly, considering mechanical exfoliants (like scrubs) may be too irritating if you’re already experiencing breakouts. Chemical exfoliants, like those containing AHA/BHA, can be more effective and kinder to sensitive skin, but start with small applications to see how your skin reacts. As for toners, they’re not strictly necessary but can be beneficial if you choose an alcohol-free toner. These can help remove residual traces of cleanser and help balance the skin’s pH.

It’s also important to moisturize after cleansing; even if your skin feels oily, use a non-comedogenic moisturizer that’s appropriate for your skin. This avoids the cycle of oiliness where your skin overcompensates for dryness. Lastly, if you’re using active treatments (like retinoids or benzoyl peroxide) for acne, follow the directions carefully to prevent irritation. If breakouts persist, it may be worth consulting a dermatologist to identify specific products or a regimen that tailors to your skin’s needs.
