loose motion not stopping after medicine - #18015

Palak

I am really stressed out right now because I’ve been dealing with loose motion not stopping after medicine. It all started about a week ago, I ate some street food that I probably shouldn't have, and my stomach went totally sideways, you know? Went to the doctor, they gave me some meds, like Imodium and some probiotics, but it’s like the loose motion not stopping after medicine is just mocking me! I mean, it was like a tiny relief at first, but the next day it was back, and now it’s been days. I’ve tried everything like drinking more water, eating bland foods, but nothing seems to work. Honestly, I don’t know if I should go back to the doctor again or just wait it out. Sometimes I feel like the loose motion not stopping after medicine is a sign that something else is going on, but then I think, what if I’m just overthinking it? Anyone else have this experience where the loose motion not stopping after medicine led to something more serious? I just want this whole thing to be over. I’m worried about dehydration too, since I can’t seem to keep anything in! Any advice would really help me out.

Persistent diarrhea can indeed be frustrating, especially when it persists despite medication. If it’s been a week and symptoms haven’t improved, it might be time to delve a bit deeper into the issue. Sometimes diarrhea after consuming food from outside maybe due to a bacterial or parasitic infection that might need specific antibiotics rather than general antidiarrheals like Imodium. You tried probiotics and bland foods, which is great as these usually help restore gut health, but it seems like more intervention might be necessary. First, monitor for signs of dehydration; if you’re having symptoms like dizziness, dry mouth, or decreased urination, it’s crucial to seek medical help promptly as dehydration can lead to more serious complications. Consider getting a stool test done to identify any pathogen that might not respond to regular treatment. It’s also vital to review any other symptoms you might have like fever, blood in stool or significant abdominal pain, which might necessitate a more immediate doctor visit. Meanwhile, stay well-hydrated with oral rehydration solutions which contain the right mix of salts and sugar to help replenish lost fluids. Continue with a light diet; foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast can sometimes be easier on an irritable stomach. Remember, though, if the symptoms persist or worsen, a face-to-face evaluation by a healthcare professional is advisable to rule out other underlying gastrointestinal conditions and to receive tailored treatment options. Regular follow-ups encourage a better understanding and facilitate more effective management of the condition.
