what are the symptoms of high bp - #18053

Vedant

I am really worried about my health since I have been feeling kinda off lately. A few weeks ago, my doctor mentioned that my blood pressure was on the higher side, but I don't know too much about it. I mean, what are the symptoms of high BP? I've heard of some stuff like headaches and dizziness but honestly, I didn't pay much attention to that convo. Since then, some days I feel like I have this weird tightness in my chest, or maybe I’m just stressed? It’s confusing. I’ve also felt tired, and my heart sometimes races for no reason. Is this even normal? Like, what are the symptoms of high BP that I should actually be looking for? My mom has high blood pressure too, and her symptoms seemed different – she talks about nosebleeds and blurry vision. Would those count as the same thing? I just feel like I need to know what the symptoms of high BP are because I don’t want to ignore anything serious. Should I be concerned about my lifestyle habits or something I'm eating? I really hope it isn’t as serious as it seems!

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is often called the “silent killer” because it usually has no symptoms until it causes serious problems. Many people with high BP don’t experience any noticeable symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they can include headaches, dizziness, tightness in the chest, or feeling tired. The sensations you’re experiencing like the tightness and racing heart could be related, but they might also be linked to stress or anxiety, which can influence blood pressure. Regarding your mom’s experience, symptoms like nosebleeds and blurred vision aren’t specifically indicative of hypertension itself but can sometimes occur with very high pressures. It’s worth noting that symptom presentation can vary between individuals, and some people, like your mom, might experience different responses. It’s crucial to consider your lifestyle, including diet, exercise, alcohol intake, and stress, as they all play significant roles in managing blood pressure. Reducing salt intake, eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, exercising regularly, and avoiding smoking can help. Keep monitoring your blood pressure regularly. If you keep experiencing the symptoms you mentioned, it would be wise to follow up with your doctor. They can assess whether this is truly related to hypertension or another issue. Remember, while some symptoms can be related, high BP is often undetectable without measuring it. If your symptoms worsen or new ones appear like severe headaches, chest pain, or shortness of breath, seek immediate medical evaluation. The key is dealing with hypertension early to mitigate long-term health risks like heart disease and stroke, so staying vigilant with monitoring and lifestyle choices is great for managing both your current and future health.
