benefits of applying aloe vera on face daily - #18874

Dhruv

I am kinda desperate for some advice! Lately, I’ve been hearing about the benefits of applying aloe vera on face daily, and I can't stop thinking about it. A friend of mine swears by it, and she’s got that glowing skin I’ve always envied. Last week, I decided to give it a shot. I found this huge aloe vera plant in my garden (don’t even know how it got there) and started cutting off little pieces, applying the gel directly to my face every morning. At first, it felt so refreshing, like a mini spa treatment at home. But then, just a few days in, I noticed my skin was getting weirdly dry and a bit itchy? Is that normal? I thought aloe was supposed to be super moisturizing and soothing?? Also, am I using it wrong? How many days does it take to really start seeing all these supposed benefits of applying aloe vera on face daily? I’ve read that it can help with acne, but I’ve always struggled with breakouts, and now I'm worried I’m making it worse! There’s like a million articles out there saying the benefits of applying aloe vera on face daily are incredible, but is everyone’s skin really different? Should I keep going or back off? I'm just so confused and don’t wanna mess my skin up more than it already is!

Applying aloe vera gel on the face daily can indeed have potential benefits, but it’s important to consider how your skin personally reacts to it. Aloe vera is well-regarded for its soothing properties, it’s high in polysaccharides which help to retain moisture, so it is known to hydrate the skin. It also has anti-inflammatory benefits that can help to calm irritated or acne-prone skin. However, everyone’s skin reacts differently to natural products, and even something as gentle as aloe vera can cause dryness or irritation in some individuals, as it might be the case for you. It’s possible that the gel is stripping your skin of its natural oils or that you may be applying too much. To start with, it might be helpful to hydrate your skin with a moisturizer after applying aloe vera to counter any potential drying effect. If your skin continues to feel dry and itchy, consider reducing the frequency or amount of aloe gel application.

To really see benefits on acne or to achieve that “glowing” skin, it often takes consistent application over a few weeks. But again, these expectations vary widely based on individual skin type and condition. It’s worth noting that using aloe vera alone may not be enough to manage acne if you have persistent breakouts; other treatments might be needed to address the underlying causes, like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide for acne, depending on severity. If your skin continues to react negatively, or if your existing skin issues worsen, it’s better to see a dermatologist. They can provide a more tailored approach to your skincare needs. Always patch test a small area before applying a new product extensively. This helps in assessing any allergy or sensitivity. Remember, just because a remedy works well for your friend doesn’t necessarily mean it will work the same for you. If you’re switching between products too quickly and not giving your skin time to adjust, it could also lead to unfavorable reactions. Create a simple routine and stick to it, preferably with products suited to your skin type.
