which fruits are good for dengue - #18907

Meera

I am feeling super anxious and worried. Last week, I found out that my best friend was diagnosed with dengue fever, and it hit me hard! He’s just been so weak and tired, and I'm scared. I know that nutrition is important during recovery, but I don't really know which fruits are good for dengue. I've read online that certain fruits can help boost immunity or hydration, but I can't remember the specifics. Like, is papaya one of those fruits? I've also heard something about guava, but what about bananas? Normally he loves mangoes too, but I’ve seen mixed reviews on that one. Is there a reason some fruits are better than others? Ugh, it's just so confusing! He’s been really struggling to eat anything, and I want to help him recover properly, but I’m worried I might suggest the wrong things! Are there any specific fruits he should avoid? And how do these fruits even help? It would mean a lot if some doctors could chip in with their thoughts on which fruits are good for dengue and what we should focus on. Thanks!

When it comes to helping someone recover from dengue, nutrition plays a crucial role, especially in maintaining hydration and supporting the immune system. There’s definitely some confusion out there, but I can help you untangle it. Fruits like papaya are often recommended for someone with dengue because they can potentially improve platelet counts, which is typically a concern for those suffering from the disease. Papaya leaves, in particular, have been studied for their positive effects on platelet levels, though it’s always best to consult a healthcare professional before trying new remedies. Guava is another good choice; it’s rich in vitamin C, which is great for boosting immune function. As for bananas, they’re excellent for their energy and potassium content, which helps in preventing dehydration and muscle cramps. They’re gentle on the stomach too, a crucial factor given the difficulty in eating during dengue. Mangoes can be refreshing and hydrating, but due to their sugar content, consumption should be moderate, especially if there are any concerns about blood sugar levels or digestive discomfort. Citrus fruits like oranges are beneficial for their vitamin C as well, enhancing immune support and maintaining hydration balance. The key here is to focus on fruits that provide fluids, vitamins, and are easy on the stomach. As always, it’s ideal to discuss dietary choices with the healthcare provider treating your friend, as individual conditions can vary. Avoid very high-fiber fruits that can cause gastrointestinal distress; instead, think about what will support general energy and hydration. Remember, hydration is critical, so along with fruits, emphasize plenty of fluids like water, oral rehydration solutions, or coconut water to maintain electrolyte balance. Stay clear of anything too extreme or exotic without consulting a professional, to avoid adverse effects.
