appointment in hospital - #19002

Ranveer

I am really stressed trying to figure out what's going on with me. I went to my general doctor cause I was feeling so tired all the time and my energy was just zapped. After a ton of tests, he sent me for an appointment in hospital for a more detailed check-up. The thing is, this appointment in hospital is like two weeks away and I can’t shake off this worry. I keep Googling my symptoms, which I'm sure is not helping. I've been having these weird stomach pains too, kinda like cramping, and sometimes I feel lightheaded. I haven’t been sleeping well either, and then there’s the weird anxiety about this appointment in hospital, like it's building up or something. Should I try to get an earlier appointment in hospital? I mean, what if it’s serious??? My doctor just said to wait but, like, I can’t just sit here and hope for the best when my body feels like a mess. Has anyone else had an appointment in hospital that they felt was unnecessarily delayed? How did you cope? I just wanna feel normal again and know what’s going on. Any advice would really help me out. Thanks!

Doctors' responses

Given your symptoms and the stress you’re experiencing, I understand your concerns about waiting for the appointment. However, it’s important to weigh your current symptoms and their severity to decide on the best course of action. Fatigue, stomach pains, lightheadedness, and poor sleep could be interconnected, potentially linked to something like anemia, a metabolic imbalance, or stress-related conditions like anxiety. These symptoms can stir worry, especially without a clear diagnosis yet, but they don’t always indicate an emergency. Regarding the stomach pains and lightheadedness, unless these are severe or worsening rapidly—such as persistent abdominal pain, dizziness significant enough to cause falls, or signs of dehydration (like dry mouth or persistent thirst)—they typically won’t necessitate immediate hospital intervention. However, if you develop red-flag symptoms, such as severe abdominal pain that’s constant or sharply worsening, fainting spells, or significant weight loss, you should promptly seek medical attention. For the interim, a few self-care strategies might help manage your symptoms: ensure you’re eating small, balanced meals regularly to help with stomach symptoms and energy levels, and try to maintain a sleep routine to improve rest quality. Techniques such as deep-breathing exercises or guided relaxation could potentially help alleviate some of your anxiety while awaiting further medical evaluation. If your symptoms change or you’re still anxious about the wait, you might consider contacting your GP to discuss whether it’s appropriate to advance your appointment based on any changes in your condition. Balancing the urgency with available body signals will help gauge your next steps.
