best food to stop loose motion - #20226

Aayan

I am dealing with a bit of a dilemma here. This past weekend, I went on a camping trip with friends, and let’s just say the food wasn’t the best 😬. I ended up with this terrible loose motion situation going on. It’s so annoying because I thought I was fine, but then everything just went south after some questionable chili. I’ve been trying to eat bland stuff like rice and bananas, but does anyone know what is the best food to stop loose motion? I heard that certain foods can help but I’m honestly confused about what really works. Is toast better? Or are there other things I should be trying? I did drink a lot of water and kept hydrated, but the loose motion just won't quit, and it’s been like this for two days now. I also tried some yogurt which I thought might help, but maybe it’s not the right time for that? What’s the best food to stop loose motion for someone who’s already feeling pretty crummy? Any quick fixes or foods I can munch on that would actually help? Thanks!

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. When it comes to calming loose stools, the BRAT diet—which stands for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast—is often recommended for its ability to firm up stools. You’re already on the right track with bananas and rice. Toast, particularly white bread, can definitely help too. Applesauce is another good choice as it is mild on the stomach and provides pectin, a natural fiber that can help bulk up your stools. Drinking plenty of fluids is crucial, including oral rehydration solutions if avaiiable, which can help replace the essential electrolytes you’re losing. Consider ginger or peppermint tea as they can be soothing for the stomach.

Avoid high-fiber foods, dairy (including the yogurt you mentioned, as it may initially exacerbate symptoms), and greasy or spicy foods until your symptoms settle down. Yogurt might be beneficial later, as it contains probiotics that can aid in restoring healthy gut flora, but it might be too soon сейчас. Instead of yogurt, think about trying plain crackers or mashed potatoes for easy-to-digest options. If there’s no improvement after a few days or if you develop additional symptoms like fever or dehydration, you should contact a healthcare professional. There may be underlying issues that need to be addressed, such as a bacterial infection or other conditions that require more targeted treatment. Meanwhile, stick with low-residue foods and stay plenty hydrated.
