foods to avoid during loose motion - #20356

Drishti

I am dealing with this frustrating issue of loose motion for the past few days. It's like my stomach decided to go rogue on me. At first, I thought it was just something I ate since I had this spicy street food that really didn't sit well but then it just got worse. I think I've been going to the bathroom every hour, it feels constant. I even saw my doc, and they mentioned some common foods to avoid during loose motion which got me thinking about what I should really stay away from. Like, I read somewhere that dairy can be bad and I just downed a whole yogurt, ugh! It’s telling me that foods to avoid during loose motion are things like fried or fatty foods, but how am I supposed to live if I can’t have my favorite snacks? I’ve also been curious about if fruits are okay, like bananas or apples, or if I should steer clear of those too. The confusion is real! Honestly, it’s overwhelming trying to figure out all these foods to avoid during loose motion while also feeling so helpless. What’s the best way to handle this? Like can I eventually eat my favorites again after I recover, or am I stuck with plain rice forever?

During loose motions, managing diet is crucial to help your digestive system recover. Immediately, it’s best to avoid certain foods that can exacerbate the symptoms. Start by steering clear of dairy products, even yogurt, as they can sometimes be difficult to digest when you’re having diarrhea. The lactose in dairy can contribute to more digestive distress. Also avoid fatty, greasy, or fried foods; they can be challenging for the digestive system to break down, potentially worsening the situation. Spicy foods can irritate the digestive tract, too, so it’s a good idea to skip those for now. Certain fruits are suitable – bananas are particularly helpful due to their binding properties and potassium content, which may aid in recovery. Apples can be beneficial if eaten in moderation, perhaps try applesauce since it’s easier on your stomach compared to raw apples. Avoid fruits high in fiber and citrus like oranges until you’ve fully recovered. Stick with the BRAT diet for now – Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast. Hydration is key, so ensure you’re drinking enough water or oral rehydration solutions to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. Gradually reintroduce your favorite foods once you’re feeling better – introduce one type at a time and observe how your body reacts. If symptoms persist or worsen, returning to the doctor might be necessary to rule out more serious causes, and never hesitate to seek medical attention if you notice severe symptoms like blood in stool, severe abdominal pain, or high fever.
