applying papaya on face benefits - #20366

Om

I am really curious about applying papaya on face benefits. A friend of mine told me she’s been using it almost every week, and her skin looks amazing! Like, she’s glowing and says that applying papaya on face benefits include clearer skin and even some kinda natural brightness. But I’m not sure if it’s too good to be true or what. I tried it once, just smeared some fresh papaya on my face for like 15 minutes, but I didn’t notice much, honestly. Maybe I did it wrong? I mean, how often do you really need to be applying papaya on face to see real improvements? After that, I was thinkin maybe I should mix it with other stuff like honey or yogurt? I read somewhere that mixing can enhance the applying papaya on face benefits. Kinda unsure what to do since my skin can be sensitive too, and I don’t wanna break out or make anything worse. I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried it and what their experience was like! Is it really worth adding papaya for face care or should I just stick to my regular products? Help!

Doctors' responses

Applying papaya to the face can indeed have some benefits for the skin, which might explain the positive improvements you’ve noticed in your friend’s complexion. Papaya contains papain, an enzyme that is believed to help in the exfoliation process by removing dead skin cells, which can result in a clearer and brighter appearance. It’s also rich in vitamins A and C, which are antioxidants that could further enhance skin health. However, the effectiveness can vary depending on individual skin types and how consistently it’s used. For noticeable results, applying fresh papaya pulp a couple of times per week might be beneficial, but given your description of sensitive skin, it’s best to proceed cautiously. Before fully integrating it into your skincare routine, it’s wise to conduct a patch test on a small area of your skin to check for any adverse reactions. Combining papaya with gentle ingredients like honey or yogurt might enhance its effects, as these can add hydrating and soothing properties, potentially minimizing irritation. More importantly, for those with sensitive skin, dilution with these substances can reduce the risk of irritation. To make a simple mask, you can mash about a tablespoon of ripe papaya with a teaspoon of yogurt or honey and apply it to a clean face. Leave it on for around 10-15 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. Given the variability in skincare responses, if you encounter any redness, irritation, or discomfort, it’s crucial to discontinue use immediately. In such cases, consulting a dermatologist for personalized management of skin concerns, utilizing specially formulated products that consider your skin type, could offer a more controlled approach to achieving your desired complexion. Overall, while DIY skincare remedies can be a fun exploration, they should always be done with a degree of caution, especially with sensitive skin.
