natural green tea night gel - #20504

Neil

I am really struggling with my skincare lately, and I think I might need some advice. A few weeks ago, I started using this new natural green tea night gel because I heard it could help with hydration and maybe even clear up some of my dullness. I honestly had high hopes. I’m drinking green tea all the time! It just makes sense to give my face some extra love, right? but after using the natural green tea night gel for about a week, I noticed my skin was feeling kinda weird — like there were small bumps, and it was a little red in some spots. I checked the ingredients, and they all seemed good, nothing crazy or harsh. Maybe it’s just me, idk? I want to believe the natural green tea night gel can work wonders but now I'm scared. Should I give it more time? Or is what I'm experiencing a sign to stop? I still wanna enjoy that refreshing green tea feeling on my face! Also, I'm curious, if I stop using it does that mean I should switch to something else? Any advice from y’all who have tried the natural green tea night gel or similar products would be super helpful!

Doctors' responses

It sounds like you’re dealing with a skin reaction, possibly a mild irritation or contact dermatitis caused by the natural green tea night gel. Even natural products can cause skin reactions due to essential oils, fragrances, or botanicals that might not agree with your skin type. The small bumps and redness are indicative of your skin telling you it isn’t entirely happy with the product. It’s generally wise to stop using any product immediately if you notice new irritation or discomfort. Continuing to use it could exacerbate the condition. Instead, focus on gentle skincare that allows your skin to calm down. Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and ensure you’re hydrating your skin with a basic, non-irritating moisturizer. Look for ingredients that are soothing like aloe vera or ceramides. It might be worth considering seeing a dermatologist if the reaction persists, as they can provide more tailored advice or treatment options. If you decide to try another product, patch test it first. Apply a small amount on a discreet area like behind the ear and watch for any reaction over 48 hours before using it on your entire face. Ensure your skincare routine is balanced, and introduce new products one at a time to monitor how your skin responds. While green tea itself has antioxidant properties that can be beneficial for the skin, how it’s formulated in products could vary. So stay gentle with your skin and prioritize hydration and protection from potential irritants. If your skin does not improve or gets worse, consider seeking further medical advice to ensure there’s no more serious underlying issue.
