how to use flax seeds for hair - #22186

Arnav

I am in a bit of a pickle here. My hair has been super frizzy and just not looking great lately. I’ve heard about flax seeds and I’m really curious about how to use flax seeds for hair because I've seen so many good things posted online. A friend told me they’re good for hair growth and make it shiny, and I just don’t know the best way to do this. I bought a bag of flax seeds a few weeks ago, but they’re just sitting in my pantry. Do I need to grind them first or is it okay to use them whole? And how exactly should I use flax seeds for hair? Like, do I need to make a gel or can I just sprinkle them on? I even read something about mixing them with other stuff like coconut oil or maybe using them in a hair mask? I'm a little overwhelmed with the options. My hair feels dry and sad, and I really want to give this a shot. Has anyone tried using flax seeds for hair? What’s worked best for you? Any tips would be super appreciated!

Flax seeds can indeed be a helpful addition for improving hair health, but it’s important to know how to use them effectively. The main way people use flax seeds for hair is by making a gel, which can be used as a treatment to enhance shine and reduce frizz. Here’s a simple method: Start by boiling around a quarter cup of whole flax seeds in two cups of water. Stir it regularly and simmer on medium heat until it forms a gel-like consistency, usually after about 10-15 minutes. Once it thickens, strain out the seeds using a fine sieve while it’s still hot (it’s easier this way). You can store this gel in the refrigerator for up to a week. To apply the gel, you can use an applicator bottle for easier use and apply directly to the hair and scalp, then let it sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing it out with lukewarm water. For added benefit, you might consider mixing in a tablespoon of coconut oil or aloe vera gel into the flaxseed gel to boost moisture, especially if your hair tends to be on the drier side. Both coconut oil and aloe vera have moisturizing properties that can further help combat dryness and frizz. It’s not recommended to just sprinkle whole flax seeds into your hair care routine because the seeds need to be transformed into a gel to release their beneficial nutrients to the hair. Internally, incorporating ground flax seeds into your diet can also promote overall hair health, thanks to their rich omega-3 fatty acids. You can add ground flax seeds to smoothies, oatmeal, or salads. Remember to consume them freshly ground because whole seeds might not provide the same benefit, as they often pass through the digestive system undigested. Be cautious if you have any allergies or sensitivities and always do a patch test if you’re trying any new topical treatment. While many people find flaxseed gel beneficial, everyone’s hair responds differently, so observe how your hair reacts and adjust use accordingly.
