how to consume apple cider vinegar - #22192

Arush

I am really trying to figure out how to consume apple cider vinegar in a way that won’t make me feel like I'm drinking straight up battery acid. Like, I’ve read that it can help with digestion but when I tried just mixing it with water, I felt like I was about to choke! 🤦‍♀️ My friend swears by it and says it's great for her energy levels, but I’m just not sure if I’m doing it right. A few weeks ago I started having these stomach issues, bloating and just feeling off, and someone suggested apple cider vinegar. But I've read different things about how to consume apple cider vinegar - should I just take it straight? What about the dosage? And do I need to drink it at specific times during the day? Like, before meals or after? Also, I heard it can mess with your teeth, what if I dilute it a little more? Ugh this is confusing!!! Seriously, I just want to understand how to consume apple cider vinegar without hating my life or wrecking my stomach even more. Any tips would be super appreciated!

When it comes to consuming apple cider vinegar (ACV) in a way that’s both palatable and safe, here are a few things you can consider. For starters, it’s generally recommended not to take it straight due to its high acidity, which can indeed feel like “battery acid.” Consuming it undiluted might irritate the throat or erode tooth enamel. A practical way to consume ACV is by diluting 1-2 tablespoons in at least 8 ounces (a full glass) of water. This can help mitigate the sharp taste and protect your teeth. Stir well before sipping. If the taste is still too strong, try adding a splash of honey or lemon; this might make it more bearable while adding some flavor.

In terms of timing, drinking it before meals might help improve digestion by increasing stomach acid production, though scientific evidence varies on this. If you’re using it to potentially aid digestion or curb bloating, you could try drinking it about 15-20 minutes before a meal. But moderation is key; excessive consumption can lead to low potassium levels or contribute to bone loss over time.

Regarding your concern about its effects on teeth, drinking through a straw could minimize contact with your teeth and reduce the risk of enamel erosion. As for the dosage, starting with the lower end, like 1 teaspoon per glass of water, could be less harsh to begin with, and you can adjust if needed based on how it affects you.

If you’re already experiencing stomach issues, I’d suggest being cautious and observing how your body reacts after a small intake. If you feel any discomfort or worsening symptoms, it’s advisable to stop and consult with a healthcare provider. Keep in mind not every natural remedy works for everyone, and if your symptoms persist, an evaluation of other potential causes or treatments may be necessary. Integrate it into your routine slowly and listen to your body’s response.
