shilajit or ashwagandha which is better - #22869

Arjun

I am getting pretty confused about this whole shilajit or ashwagandha, which is better thing. I was talking to a friend who swears by shilajit, claiming it's like a miracle substance, helping with energy and stuff. But then I read about ashwagandha, and it’s supposed to be great for stress and anxiety, which I really struggle with at times. I started taking ashwagandha a few weeks ago, and I thought it was helping me chill out, but I still feel kinda worn out in the afternoons. Last month, I had a really terrible bout of fatigue which was super frustrating—like, I thought I was getting sick or something. My doctor mentioned trying shilajit, but I’m like, shilajit or ashwagandha, which is better for what I need? I don’t wanna waste time on supplements that don’t work, you know? Have any of you had experiences with shilajit or ashwagandha? Which one actually gave you more energy or helped you relax? I feel like I have a ton of questions I need answers to, and I’m just not sure where to turn for reliable info. Thanks in advance for your help!

Doctors' responses

When it comes to deciding between shilajit and ashwagandha, it’s important to understand that they’re both used in traditional medicine but tend to serve somewhat different purposes. Ashwagandha, for example, is often touted for its adaptogenic properties, which means it might help the body handle stress more effectively. It has been shown in some studies to have potential benefits for reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality due to its potential calming effects. If you’re dealing with stress and feel worn out or anxious, ashwagandha could be a suitable option. However, it sounds like fatigue is a significant concern for you, in which case shilajit might be worth considering. Shilajit is a resin commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine, and it’s traditionally believed to contribute to vitality and energy levels. Some research indicates it could improve fatigue and increase mitochondrial function, meaning it might help with energy production on a cellular level. Shilajit might also support overall energy metabolism, which could be beneficial if you often feel drained. Before starting anything new, it’s crucial to discuss with a healthcare provider, especially since supplements can interact with other conditions or medications. While both ashwagandha and shilajit have potential benefits, they aren’t cure-alls, and individual responses could vary widely. Consider trialing them (with medical guidance), monitor your responses, and adjust based on which seems to give a better personal benefit. Remember to follow recommended dosages, and focus on a balanced diet and adequate sleep which are foundational for addressing both stress and fatigue.
