can we drink pineapple juice at night - #22870

Krishna

I am really curious about a thing that's been on my mind lately. Like, can we drink pineapple juice at night? I’ve been having trouble sleeping, maybe due to stress or whatever, and my friend said pineapple juice is good for digestion and might help with sleep. But then I started thinking, is it actually cool to drink pineapple juice at night? I mean, I had a glass last night, and it was super refreshing, but now I’m like, will it keep me up? I’ve heard that some juices can mess with your sleep due to sugar or acid content. I tried googling it, but there’s like a million different opinions. Some people say pineapple juice is great because of the bromelain, which is supposed to help with inflammation or digestion, but does that mean it’s good at night? I also noticed that when I drank it, I felt energized, but also kind of restless. Can we drink pineapple juice at night, or is that gonna mess me up? I don't wanna be tossing and turning when I have work in the morning! Can you help me out with some advice? Would love to hear what you all think, thanks!

Doctors' responses

Drinking pineapple juice at night is generally safe, but there are a few points to consider. Pineapple juice contains bromelain, which can indeed aid digestion, and it also has melatonin, a hormone that can promote sleep. However, the sugar content in pineapple juice might spike your blood sugar levels and give a temporary boost of energy, which could make you feel restless. Some people are more sensitive to sugar before bed, which might affect their ability to fall asleep. The acidity of pineapple juice can also cause discomfort like reflux or heartburn, particularly if you consume it right before lying down. If you’re prone to these conditions, it might be better to avoid acidic foods and drinks in the evening. Instead, you might consider drinking a smaller amount of pineapple juice a couple of hours before you plan on sleeping to allow your body to digest and process the drink, minimizing any potential sleep disturbances. Always make sure to listen to your body and notice how different foods and drinks affect you can be really helpful in managing your digestion and sleep quality. If you find that pineapple juice leaves you feeling more energetic than sleepy, you might want to consider another bedtime beverage like herbal tea or warm milk, both of which are often recommended for promoting relaxation and improving sleep. As with any dietary change, it’s useful to pay attention to how you personally react and adjust accordingly.
