is til oil good for hair - #22888
I am really confused about this whole essential oils thing for my hair. Just last week, I came across a bunch of articles claiming that is til oil good for hair, but I don't know what to think. My hair has been so dry and frizzy lately, and I’ve tried tons of products, you know? Nothing seems to work. I remember my grandma used to say that is til oil is good for hair, but I honestly thought it was just one of those old wives’ tales. Anyway, I bought some organic sesame oil and decided to give it a try. I mixed it with a few drops of lavender oil thinking the scent would help too. I applied it and left it on overnight, but when I woke up, my hair still looked a bit limp, and I'm just kinda wondering, am I doing this wrong? Is is til oil good for hair or is it just hype? Should I be using it differently or is there a special technique that makes it work better? I feel like I’m just going in circles here, and my hair needs help NOW, not later! Anyone with real experience, please help me out!!

Doctors' responses
Til oil, or sesame oil, is often cited as beneficial for hair health, and while it’s been used traditionally, current evidence for its efficacy is mostly anecdotal. It’s rich in vitamin E and fatty acids, which can help with moisturizing and improving hair texture to some extent. However, if your hair feels limp after you’ve used it, it might be the application method or that your hair texture isn’t responding well to it. Hair often looks limp if there’s a residue or if the oil isn’t fully absorbed, which can happen if too much is applied or if it’s not washed out thoroughly. If you’re using sesame oil alone, it might be beneficial to warm the oil slightly before applying, as this can enhance its penetration to the hair shaft and scalp. Massage the warmed oil gently into the scalp and through the lengths of your hair, then cover with a shower cap. Leave it in for at least 30 minutes before rinsing out, and follow with a gentle shampoo. This might reduce any limpness and ensure that your hair absorbs just the right amount it needs. Mixing essential oils like lavender is fine for scent and some relaxation benefit, but it doesn’t crucially change the effectiveness of the sesame oil on hair health. Given your concerns about dry and frizzy hair, it’s worth exploring if other factors like diet, stress, or underlying health issues may be contributing to the condition. Ensure that you’re maintaining a balanced diet with sufficient protein, vitamins, and minerals, as these are all crucial for hair health. Also, consider using sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners designed for dry hair, as these won’t strip natural oils. It’s also a good idea to look into the type of water you’re using to wash your hair; hard water can exacerbate dry hair issues. If these approaches don’t yield result or if your hair condition worsens, it might be worthwhile to consult with a dermatologist or a trichologist to exclude any dermatological conditions.
