does beetroot cause heavy periods - #22939

Tara

I am really worried about this whole thing with beetroot and my periods. I've been eating a lot of beetroot lately since I heard it's super healthy, but now I'm questioning if does beetroot cause heavy periods. My last few cycles have been heavier than usual, and honestly, it’s kinda freaking me out. Like, I usually have pretty normal periods, but these last 2 months have been a whole different story. I feel like I’m bleeding more and I just don’t know what’s up with my body. I even tried talking to my doc, but they said it’s probably just normal hormonal changes or stress. But what if it’s the beetroot? I mean, does beetroot cause heavy periods or something? I do feel like I've heard mixed things about foods affecting cycles before. Some say it can help, others, like my friend, swear that it makes things worse for them. Has anyone else had experiences where does beetroot cause heavy periods? I can’t be the only one who’s run into this, right? Feeling kinda lost and just need some clarity on if I should continue with my beetroot smoothie obsession or cut back. Anyone got thoughts?

Beetroot is not known to directly cause heavy periods. While beetroot is indeed a nutrient dense food, rich in vitamins and minerals like iron and folate, there’s no substantial scientific evidence linking its consumption to changes in menstrual flow. It’s quite common to experience fluctuations in menstrual cycles due to various factors, such as stress, hormonal changes, weight fluctuations, or underlying health conditions. Stress, for instance, can significantly impact your menstrual cycle, leading to heavier or irregular periods. It’s also possible that what you’re experiencing could be due to other dietary changes or an increase in physical activity. That said, if your periods have become noticeably heavier and you’re concerned, it’s crucial to consider other potential causes such as hormonal imbalances, fibroids, or polyps, which can also contribute to heavier bleeding. It might be helpful to track your cycles, noting any other symptoms you experience, and discuss this information with your healthcare provider. Seeking a second opinion could provide further insights, especially if there are persistent or worsening changes. Until you’re certain about the cause, there’s no immediate need to eliminate beetroot from your diet entirely unless you suspect sensitivity or it coincides with other dietary issues. However, maintaining a balanced diet and monitoring your body’s response can guide your dietary choices more effectively. If at any point you experience extreme symptoms like severe pain, dizziness, or very high blood loss, contact a healthcare professional immediately, as these could indicate more urgent issues needing prompt attention.
