can testosterone increase height - #22944

Rudra

I am 24 and I feel kinda lost about my height issues! I always thought I'd be a bit taller by now, but I'm still sitting at 5'6", and it’s been bugging me. I know that testosterone plays a role in many things, so I can’t help but wonder, can testosterone increase height? I remember my dad saying something about how when he was a teenager, he took some supplements to help with his growth—he seemed taller than my uncles. I went to an endocrinologist who told me my testosterone levels are normal, but I keep hearing about these stories where guys grew after getting treatments. Is that even a thing? Should I be looking into testosterone therapy? I mean, could it actually help me get those extra inches or is it just a myth? I'm confused because I don't wanna make things worse, but the whole height thing, it gets kinda depressing! Can testosterone increase height for someone like me, or is it more about other factors?

At 24, the likelihood of increasing height is unfortunately quite low. By this age, the growth plates in your bones have most likely fused, which means that additional height gain isn’t possible through natural growth processes or any hormonal therapy, including testosterone. Testosterone can affect height during adolescence by contributing to the development of muscle mass and bone density, but once those growth plates close, additional height won’t occur. In some rare cases, though, people who have specific medical conditions related to growth may receive hormone treatments designed to address those issues; this is typically determined by an endocrinologist based on individual situations. Since you’ve mentioned that your testosterone levels are normal, typical testosterone replacement therapy wouldn’t likely to result in increased height. Such treatments are usually prescribed to address low testosterone levels that affect factors like energy, libido, or muscle mass. For adult men with already typical levels, more testosterone doesn’t convert into more height. It’s also important to be cautious with hormone therapy, as inappropriate use can lead to several side effects, including cardiovascular issues, mood changes, and infertility. If height is a significant concern impacting your well-being, exploring avenues like proper posture, overall fitness, and nutrition can enhance your appearance and how you feel. However, for any changes considered medical or hormone-based, ongoing consultation with your healthcare provider ensures safety and efficacy.
