is reetha good for hair - #22990

Hriday

I am really wondering if reetha is good for hair after experiencing some major hair issues lately. Like, I've always had thick hair, but noticed it’s been getting really brittle and dry, especially since I dyed it a few months ago. My friend mentioned using reetha as a natural remedy, but I was kinda skeptical. So, I tried it out last week by making a paste and applying it, but then I wasn't sure if I was using it right? I mean, is reetha good for hair really? I also read somewhere that it could potentially help with dandruff, which I’ve started noticing. I feel like my scalp is all flaky now. Ugh! I’ve been keeping my hair tied up all the time to hide it, but I’d rather not. Besides, I’m scared too that using reetha might not actually help and I might be wasting my time. Does reetha help with both shedding and dryness? How do you even use it properly to see results? Also, how long does it usually take to see if reetha is good for hair? I don't want to try it for months and not see any difference. Thanks for any insight!

Doctors' responses

Reetha, also known as soapnut, has been traditionally used for hair care due to its natural cleansing properties, and many people find it beneficial for maintaining healthy hair and scalp. Its use can be particularly helpful in addressing issues like dandruff because of its antifungal properties, which may improve scalp condition by reducing flakiness. Regarding brittleness and dryness, reetha might not moisturize the hair significantly since it’s primarily a cleanser. When using reetha, it’s common to boil the nuts in water to prepare a liquid that you can use as a rinse or shampoo. You apply it to the scalp and massage gently, then rinse thoroughly after a few minutes. This helps clean the scalp without using harsh chemicals found in some traditional shampoos. While it’s generally considered safe, overuse or improper use might lead to dryness, so it might be wise to pair it with a good conditioner or oil treatment for moisture balance. The timelines for seeing noticeable improvements can vary, but many users report changes after regular use for several weeks. For optimal results, consider using reetha once or twice a week and monitor how your hair and scalp respond over time. If your hair continues to feel dry and brittle, evaluating your overall hair care routine, including diet, stress management, and possible underlying health issues, will be important. Don’t overlook the effects of dyeing, and ensure you’re using products suited for colored-treated hair. If problems persist, or if you notice excessive hair shedding, consulting a dermatologist or trichologist might be advisable to rule out underlying conditions.
