how much protein in 100gm chana - #23399

Ishita

I am kinda worried about my diet lately because I've been trying to get more protein into my meals, especially since I started working out more. A couple weeks ago, I was at the grocery store and stumbled upon these chana packets and thought they’d be great for a high-protein snack. But then I started wondering, how much protein in 100gm chana actually? I tried looking online but the answers kinda varied, some said it was like 20 grams and others said more. I mean, that's a lot of difference! Just last night, I made a chickpea salad with some veggies and spices, but I didn't measure how much I used. I really want to know, when I’m cooking, how can I know how much protein in 100gm chana is actually beneficial for me? And when I add stuff like dressing or other ingredients, do I lose some of that protein or does it all stay? Also, I heard they're good for muscle recovery or something after workouts, but now I'm second-guessing how much I'm actually getting! Should I be eating more or is what I'm doing okay? Ugh, just trying to figure this out so my efforts at the gym aren’t wasted.

In 100 grams of chana (also known as chickpeas), there’s typically about 19 to 20 grams of protein, which makes them quite a valuable source of plant-based protein. That makes them a great addition to your diet if you’re working out and need to build and repair muscle. The variation you came across online might be due to different preparation methods or slight differences in chickpea varieties. In their natural dry form, chickpeas pack a punch of protein, but once cooked, their weight increases due to water absorption, so the protein content per 100 grams seems lesser by weight in the cooked state. Cooking or adding ingredients like dressings generally doesn’t reduce the protein content already present in the chickpeas. However, it’s important to be mindful of the additional calories or fats from extra ingredients like olive oil or mayonnaise in dressings. Nonetheless, the protein itself remains intact. If you’re creating balanced meals around your workouts, consider pairing chickpeas with other protein sources like nuts or seeds, and a variety of vegetables, to enhance overall nutrient intake. If you’re new to an enhanced exercise regimen, it’s crucial to ensure a well-rounded diet that supports your energy needs and muscle recovery. Eating a variety of protein throughout the day can support muscle synthesis. If you’re uncertain whether your current diet meets your workout demands, tracking your intake with a nutrition app might provide clarity, or consulting with a nutritionist could offer personalized insights to ensure your efforts in the gym complement your diet.
