No symptoms other than green stool - #10209
For the last three days, I have had a greens tool. I do not have a fever, stomach pain, nausea etc. I have not eaten anything such as dark green vegetables or anything with dyes. I am drinking plenty of water also. Since I am otherwise healthy, how do I get rid of this? Should I worry?

Doctors’ responses
Continue drinking water 2-3 ltrs daily
1) Cap. Sporolac DS – 1 capsule twice daily × 5 days (Supports healthy gut flora and helps normalize stool color/consistency)
Keep a stool diary noting color for 3-6 days
Investigation: Stool RE and ME
In most of cases green stool is harmless if 1 you are not having pain fever or diarrhea 2 you are hydrated 3 You didn’t have dark green veggies Reason for your green stool 1 )fast digestion - your bile is not getting digested giving your stool green colour 2)if you have taken any antibiotics recently, due to change in gut bacteria it can cause change of stool color 3) high magnesium rich diet
Urgently visit doctor If your complaint continue for more than 7 days Fever , diarrhea or weight loss Mucus or blood in stool
Continue observing your stool for few days and you can take probiotic food like yogurt or curd
Hello dear Please be aware See as per my clinical experience green stools are otherwise harness But keep on observing and get stool culture done for confirmation Regards
Green stool can often be attributed to a few different factors, some less concerning than others. Since you’ve mentioned you’re not experiencing any other symptoms like fever, stomach pain, or nausea, and there’s been no significant change in diet that could account for the color change, it’s likely not something urgent, but rather a result of an alteration in bile processing. Bile is a digestive fluid produced by the liver, and if food passes through the intestines more quickly than normal, it might not interact with enzymes that typically turn it brown, resulting in a green hue. Stress, dietary changes, or even mild infections can speed up transit time, causing this. Firstly, since you already drink enough water, continue doing this to maintain proper hydration and facilitate digestion. Another step is to monitor your dietary habits closely. Even though you haven’t mentioned recent consumption of green foods or artificial colors, it’s worth considering less recognizable sources of colorants in processed foods. If, however, the green color persists beyond a week, or if other symptoms begin to appear, such as feeling unwell, changes in bowel habits, or unexpected weight loss, it would be prudent to contact a healthcare professional. They might suggest potential stool tests to rule out any underlying infection or condition affecting bile absorption. Always keep an eye on recurring symptoms, as these can be indicators that medical evaluation is needed. Until then, tracking any concurrent changes in health or new symptoms will be crucial in assessing whether future medical assessment is necessary.
