can i use multani mitti daily - #24557
I am really curious about something and need some advice from you guys. I've been using multani mitti on my face lately, like, almost every day, and I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. A bit of background: I've had oily skin since I was a teen, plus occasional breakouts. A friend told me that multani mitti works wonders for oily skin, like it's super cleansing and absorbs all the excess oil. I mixed it with rose water at first, and the glow I saw after using it was amazing! But now I'm kind of worried if using it daily might be too much for my skin?? I mean, I have to deal with those pesky dry patches on my cheeks sometimes, and I heard that multani mitti might dry out my skin. Can I use multani mitti daily without causing any harm?? Would really love to hear if anyone else has had good or bad experiences with this. Maybe you could suggest a routine? Is there a limit to how much I should be using?? Really appreciate your help guys!

Doctors' responses
Using multani mitti, or fuller’s earth, daily can be tempting, especially with its immediate benefits like reduced oiliness and improved glow, but it might not be the best long-term approach for your skin type. Multani mitti is indeed effective for drawing out excess oil and impurities, but daily application can exacerbate dryness, especially if you’ve already noticed dry patches on your cheeks. Those dry areas indicate that your skin might not tolerate an intense daily routine, which can lead to further irritation and imbalance. It would be better to limit the use of multani mitti to 1-2 times a week instead. This frequency can help maintain the balance between addressing oiliness and avoiding excessive dryness. When you do use it, continuing to mix it with rose water can be soothing and beneficial due to its hydrating properties. Following each use, applying a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer can help restore the skin’s moisture barrier. In terms of your routine, I’d recommend complementing this with a gentle cleanser meant for oily or combination skin daily. Protecting your skin barrier by not over-exfoliating or stripping it with harsh treatments every day maintains overall skin health more effectively. If you’re still experiencing persistent oiliness or acne even after adjusting your regimen, consulting with a dermatologist might provide more tailored advice and treatment options that consider the blend of your oily and drier skin needs. Also, observe your skin’s response when adjusting these practices; if dryness or other issues persist, it would be wise to reassess with professional help.
