How can I turn my acne-prone skin into completely clear, acne-free skin? - #10619

Piyush

I’ve been dealing with forehead acne for a long time — small pimple-like bumps that just won’t go away. I also have acne on my back. The active acne on my cheeks is gone, but how can I quickly get rid of the scars? My hairline is also getting worse, and I keep getting dandruff too. Why is all this happening, and how can I turn my acne-prone skin into completely clear, acne-free skin?

Dr. Shayeque Reza
I completed my medical degree in 2023, but honestly, my journey in healthcare started way before that. Since 2018, I’ve been actively involved in clinical practice—getting hands-on exposure across multiple departments like ENT, pediatrics, dermatology, ophthalmology, medicine, and emergency care. One of the most intense and defining phases of my training was working at a District Government Hospital for a full year during the COVID pandemic. It was chaotic, unpredictable, and exhausting—but it also grounded me in real-world medicine like no textbook ever could. Over time, I’ve worked in both OPD and IPD setups, handling everything from mild viral fevers to more stubborn, long-term conditions. These day-to-day experiences really built my base and taught me how to stay calm when things get hectic—and how to adjust fast when plans don’t go as expected. What I’ve learned most is that care isn't only about writing the right medicine. It’s about being fully there, listening properly, and making sure the person feels seen—not just treated. Alongside clinical work, I’ve also been exposed to preventive health, health education, and community outreach. These areas really matter to me because I believe real impact begins outside the hospital, with awareness and early intervention. My approach is always centered around clarity, empathy, and clinical logic—I like to make sure every patient knows exactly what’s going on and why we’re doing what we’re doing. I’ve always felt a pull towards general medicine and internal care, and honestly, I’m still learning every single day—each patient brings a new lesson. Medicine never really sits still, it keeps shifting, and I try to shift with it. Not just in terms of what I know, but also in how I listen and respond. For me, it’s always been about giving real care. Genuine, respectful, and the kind that actually helps a person heal—inside and out.

Clearing your skin and addressing multiple concerns, including forehead acne, back acne, scars, hairline issues, and dandruff, involves a multi-faceted approach. First, let’s tackle acne. The bumps on your forehead and back may be linked to factors like sebum production, clogged pores, or possibly even hair products that can contribute to breakouts. Incorporating a topical routine with ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help unclog pores and reduce the lesion frequency. Consider using a gentle yet effective cleanser for acne-prone skin that include these ingredients. For back acne specifically, using a salicylic acid body wash a few times a week might help as well. As for acne scarring, products containing ingredients like retinoids can be effective in improving skin texture over time. Topical retinoids, applied at night, stimulate collagen production and skin turnover, addressing scars and hyperpigmentation. However, be cautious as they can cause irritation and should start usage gradually — every other night, for instance, to build tolerance. If scars are more pronounced, procedures such as chemical peels or laser treatments under a dermatologist’s guidance could be an option.

Now about your hairline and dandruff, these can often be associated with seborrheic dermatitis, where flaky scales and oily skin intersect which might contribute to both dandruff and acne. A medicated shampoo containing ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or selenium sulfide used a few times weekly can help manage these symptoms by reducing yeast on the scalp and calming inflammation. Avoid over-washing as it can exacerbate oil production and disrupting the natural balance of scalp oils. Lifestyle modifications like managing stress, maintaining a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, and ensuring regular, gentle cleansing—all contribute to overall skin health. Believe it or not, the hair products you use can play a significant role in these issues, so opt for non-comedogenic, sulfate-free options that will not clog pores or irritate scalp skin. If changes in over-the-counter remedies aren’t showing improvements or your symptoms seem to worsen, it may be beneficial to consult with a dermatologist. They can provide a tailored treatment plan and, if necessary, prescribe oral medications which might more substantially address underlying factors contributing to your acne and other symptoms.
