spots on nose - #19955

Harsh

I am super worried about these weird spots on my nose that keep popping up. It started about a month ago when I noticed a couple of tiny, red spots on my nose, and thought they were just pimples or something. But now there are more, and they’re not going away! I even tried some over-the-counter creams, but it kinda made my skin worse? The spots on my nose kinda feel bumpy and itchy too, which is just adding to my frustration. I went to my dermatologist last week, and they said it might be something harmless, but I'm still not convinced. They mentioned something about milia or maybe clogged pores??? I can't tell if I should be more worried about these spots on my nose or just keep treating them like regular zits. I guess I’m mostly wondering if anyone else has dealt with spots on nose before and what they did? Like, did it take forever to clear up?? I really don’t wanna end up with scars or have to go through more treatments. Should I just give it more time or look for different solutions? Any advice would be super appreciated!

Doctors' responses

Spots on the nose can be concerning, but understanding what they might be is a good first step to managing them. From your description, a few possibilities come to mind—these could be symptoms of several common skin conditions like milia, rosacea, or even seborrheic dermatitis, among others. Milia are small, bump-like cysts filled with keratin and are usually harmless though they can be stubborn to treat. They don’t typically itch, so if you’re experiencing itchiness, this detail might point more toward an inflammatory skin condition like rosacea or contact dermatitis, especially since you mentioned over-the-counter creams have worsened the situation. Considering further that your dermatologist mentioned clogged pores, this could suggest either acne or potentially folliculitis, where hair follicles become inflamed due to infection or irritation.

Given the persistence of the spots and the reaction to creams, it would be judicious to revisit your dermatologist for clarity, especially if there is a change in color or increase in number of spots. A dermatologist might perform a skin examination or suggest a biopsy if necessary to rule out any more serious conditions. Meanwhile, ensuring a good skincare routine with a gentle cleanser and non-comedogenic moisturizer can help manage your symptoms. Avoiding heavy cosmetics, greasy ointments, or any irritants should also minimize further irritation. It’s essential to use sunscreen since sun exposure can exacerbate certain skin conditions. For now, hold off on additional treatments unless advised by your healthcare provider. If symptoms escalate or you experience additional features like pain or blisters, immediate medical attention might be warranted to exclude more urgent conditions. Just keep in mind; skin issues often require patience and careful management over time.
