Doctor information
Experience:
3 years
Education:
Maharashtra Institute of Medical Education and Research
Academic degree:
MS (Master Of Surgrey)
Area of specialization:
I am a speciality Ophthalmology consultant, mainly dealing with day to day eye problems as well as some complex medical eye conditions, and my work usually covers a wide range of patients. My core areas include refractive errors, eye allergies, and common eye infections, which may sound simple but often need careful judgement and patience. I am also involved in managing corneal diseases and cataract, along with medically treatable retinal disorders like diabetic retinopathy and hypertensive retinopathy, where timing and regular follow up really matters. Diagnosis and medical management of glaucoma is another key part of my practice, and I spend time explaining things slowly because glaucoma can be confusing for patients, even for me at times. Apart from this, I routinely manage other eye diseases such as pterygium and dacryocystitis, trying to balance clinical accuracy with practical treatment options. My approach stays focused on clear diagnosis, medical management, and honest guidance, even when answers are not always straight forward!!
Achievements:
I am proud to say my post graduation in ophthalmology was completed with 1st rank in my institute, which still feels a bit unreal when I think back. During fellowship, I was awarded best fellow cataract Surgeon, a phase that pushed my surgical limits alot. I have presented 2 research paper at national level conferences, and also have one international publication under my name, where I worked as primary researcher and 1st author, tough but worth it!!

I am Dr Sujit Bahekar, an ophthalmologist by training and by everyday work, and I have completed my MBBS and MS degrees from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. My medical education shaped the basics strongly, though learning never really stops and sometimes I still double-check myself. I later completed my fellowship from Ganpati Netralaya, which is known as one of the renowned eye institutes in India, and that phase added real depth to my clinical thinking and surgical skills. I am currently working as a Consultant and Cataract Surgeon at Vasantrao Pawar Medical College, where academic exposure mixes with hands-on patient care, sometimes hectic but meaningful. Along with this role, I also practice as Director and Consultant at my own setup, which allows me to stay closely involved with patients from the first visit to post-surgery follow ups. My primary focus remains cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmic care, with attention to safety, precision, and practical decision making. I try to keep my approach patient-centered, even on long days when time feels short. Clear explanation, realistic expectations, and ethical treatment matter to me, though I admit communication is a work in progress. Over the years, I have managed a wide range of eye conditions, balancing teaching, surgery, and private practice, sometimes all in the same day. I believe consistent learning and honest medical practice go hand in hand, even if the path feels a bit uneven at times!!
