It’s helpful to understand that chronic pain, particularly in the lower back and feet, can often stem from mechanical issues or nerve compression. Considering your mother’s symptoms, which include the foot soles and spread to her lower back and sometimes shoulders, it might be beneficial to explore conditions like plantar fasciitis or lumbar radiculopathy, possibly relating to spinal issues such as a herniated disc. These conditions could explain why the pain exacerbates with standing for extended periods, as noted when she’s in the kitchen. Vitamin B12 and neurotropic supplements can help if there’s a nerve component, but if there’s no improvement, further investigation may be needed. I recommend looking at imaging studies like an MRI of the lumbar spine to check for any nerve compression issues. Footwear should also be assessed; comfortable, supportive shoes may make a significant difference. Physical therapy is worth considering as well. Exercises targeting core strength and stretching can help stabilize the spine and potentially alleviate stiffness or imbalance. If there’s any possibility of bone or joint issues, a referral to an orthopedist could provide further insights. Additionally, pain localized to soft tissue or muscles should be evaluated by a rheumatologist, who might consider conditions like fibromyalgia. If these symptoms persist without relief, follow-up with her primary physician is critical to ensure a comprehensive treatment approach and possibly consider an interdisciplinary pain management program. Seeking further evaluation might lead to newer interventions her current course hasn’t addressed, ensuring her quality of life improves with targeted, focused care.
