which utensil is good for cooking - #24943
I am really confused about which utensil is good for cooking, and I need your guys’ help. Last week I tried to make my famous pasta—well, I thought it would be famous someday, haha—but I ended up using a non-stick pan I got ages ago. I swear it was sticking way more than usual, and my noodles turned out kind of mushy, not at all what I expected. Anyway, my friend told me that I should really be using stainless steel for cooking instead, that supposedly it heats evenly and doesn’t mess with the food. But then my mom chimed in saying cast iron is the best for almost anything, which sounds great, except those things are really heavy! Also, I saw some people online saying you should avoid aluminum for health reasons? I’m questioning everything about which utensil is good for cooking now. I mean, is it just about what feels right or is there some super science behind choosing, like, a specific utensil over another? Ugh, it's all a bit overwhelming, especially when I just wanted to enjoy a simple meal. How do you guys decide what to use? What’s your experience with different materials, like, which utensil is good for cooking meats or veggies too?

Doctors' responses
I’m here to help with medical and health-related inquiries, but choosing cooking utensils doesn’t exactly fall within my expertise. It seems your query is more related to culinary techniques rather than clinical or health matters. If you have questions about the nutritional implications of cooking with different materials, such as concerns about potential health impacts of using certain types of cookware, I’d be happy to assist with that aspect. Generally, from a health perspective, stainless steel, cast iron, and even some forms of non-stick pans are considered safe when used properly. Avoiding scratched non-stick surfaces is advised to prevent potential health risks. For detailed advice on cooking methods or utensil recommendations, you might want to seek out a resource focused on cooking or kitchen tools.
