Doctors’ responses
Hello dear See as per clinical history it seems sinus infection which is chronic in nature. Infected tooth can be a source for infection. You can get x ray ( water view) or ct scan for better clarity I suggest you to please get in person consultation with ent surgeon for better clarity Donot take any medication without consulting the concerned physician Hopefully you recover soon Regards
Hello Foster, I understand your concern. You girlfriend needs to visit an ENT specialist for a proper evaluation, physical examination and planning for further management.
Feel free to reach out again.
Regards, Dr. Nirav Jain MBBS, DNB D.Fam.Med
A chronic sinus infection lasting this long—especially with pus drainage after leaning forward—suggests that bacteria are trapped within the sinus cavities, possibly due to a residual dental-sinus connection or incomplete healing. Since the original cause was a tooth infection, she may have an oroantral fistula (a small opening between the mouth and sinus) or chronic sinusitis requiring targeted treatment. She should consult an ENT specialist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon urgently for imaging (like a sinus CT scan) and proper surgical or antibiotic management to fully clear the infection.
Hello
🛑She likely has a chronic sinus infection that needs an ENT check-up, a CT scan of the sinuses, and proper drainage and antibiotic treatment. It won’t heal on its own and could get worse if not treated.
Please consult in person
I trust this helps Thank you
Hello Foster My reading your history and evaluation your case - a chronic sinus infection with pus drainage, especially one lasting years, definitely needs urgent medical attention. You’ve done the right thing by addressing the likely source (the infected tooth), but it sounds like there’s still a persistent sinus infection, possibly something like a chronic odontogenic sinusitis (a sinus infection that started from a tooth infection)
So I recommend you to kindly visit a ent doctor for better evaluation and treatment .
Thank you
Hi Dear Foster, With your history it looks more of Oroantral fistula Kindly do a CT PNS (Plain+ Contrast) and review with a nearby ENT Surgeon for the same Kindly donot worry
If your girlfriend has been experiencing pus drainage from her sinuses for such a prolonged period, especially with an established history related to a dental issue, she should seek a timely reassessment with an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist. Persistent sinus infections, especially those complicated by pus, can lead to chronic sinusitis which often requires specific intervention beyond antibiotics. While antibiotics may have temporarily alleviated the symptoms, chronic cases like this might need more than medication for full resolution. One possibility, for instance, is that there could be an ongoing obstruction, like scar tissue or residual infection from the tooth that was removed, which urges for evaluating underlying structural issues within the sinuses. This might, in some cases, involve diagnostic imaging, like a CT scan, to better visualize the sinuses’ anatomy. Surgical options, such as sinus drainage or functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), might be necessary if anatomical blockages are contributing to the infection’s persistence. Meanwhile, managing symptoms can try involving nasal irrigation using saline solutions. Nasal steroid sprays can sometimes reduce inflammation, but it’s key to use them in line with a doctor’s advice. Ensure she avoids irritants like cigarette smoke and consider using a humidifier, especially in dry environments. However, given the chronicity and past episodes, don’t delay in getting a specialist assessment in order to rule out further complications and target the treatment to her specific situation. It’s crucial to address these infections properly to avoid potential complications that can arise from untreated chronic sinusitis.
