nose corrector - #13581

Rashi

I am really stressed about my nose! For years I've kinda felt like it doesn't fit my face right and honestly, I’ve thought about using one of those nose corrector things. A friend mentioned how she got a more defined nose using a nose corrector, and I thought wow, maybe I should try it?? But she also warned me it might not work the way I want. Last week, I spent hours looking at before-and-after pics online of people who used it and some looked amazing, while others kinda had weird results. Like, what if I end up looking worse? My nose is the part I feel most insecure about, and I can’t imagine wearing a nose corrector and seeing absolutely no change. Would other people notice it? I've heard you gotta be consistent with a nose corrector too but is that like wearing it all day?? I really don’t wanna be that person who walks around with something weird on my face. Also, can the nose corrector even help with things other than just shape? Like, for breathing better or something? Just worried I’ll waste money and time on something that doesn't actually do what I hope! Should I just suck it up and consult a doc instead? Any advice would really mean a lot!

Doctors’ responses

Nose correctors or shapers typically fall into the cosmetic accessory category and are intended to provide a temporary alteration to the shape of the nose by applying pressure. The concept is that through consistent use, they could potentially create minor changes in cartilage structure over extended periods, although there’s limited scientific evidence to support this. These devices are not effective in altering bone structure, which plays a significant role in the overall shape of the nose for adults. In terms of practical effectiveness, results can vary greatly from person to person, and it’s possible some may see minor changes, while others might experience discomfort or inconsistent results. It’s unlikely such devices would be noticeable if discreet, but wearing anything continuously on the nose may cause skin irritation or pressure marks. Concerning improvements in breathing, a nose corrector wouldn’t address functional issues like deviated septum or chronic nasal congestion. If your concern is primarily aesthetic, or if there’s any functional issue, consulting with a professional, such as a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist, would provide comprehensive insights tailored to your facial anatomy. They can discuss potential procedures like nonsurgical or surgical rhinoplasty if you’re considering a more permanent solution. It’s important to weigh the benefits against the risks and costs. Remember, what works for one person may not work for another, hence professional guidance would be a safer and more reliable route, especially if you’re feeling uncertain.
