which oil is best for body massage - #22260

Tara

I am really trying to figure out which oil is best for body massage because my friend recommended a couple options and I honestly don't know where to start. I went to a wellness retreat last month, and they used this amazing scented oil that left my skin feeling so soft! But they didn’t tell me what oil it was—super frustrating, right? I’ve used coconut oil before but it feels a bit sticky, plus I'm not really a fan of the smell sometimes. Then I also tried almond oil since it’s supposed to be good for hydration, but it seemed too thick for my liking. I was thinking of mixing oils to find a better fit but is that even a good idea? My partner and I are also planning to do some at-home massages more often, and I want to make sure we’re using the best oil for body massage. I heard that sesame oil is popular too, what do you think? Like, if I want something that absorbs well but still smells nice, what’s the best bet? Really just want to know which oil is best for body massage, any suggestions would be super helpful!

There are several oils that could work well for body massages, and choosing one depends largely on what you prefer in terms of scent, texture, and absorption speed. Since you’re interested in an oil that’s not sticky, absorbs well, and has a pleasant scent, here are a few options to consider: Jojoba oil is frequently recommended for massage due to its close similarity to human skin’s natural oils, allowing it to absorb easily without leaving a greasy residue. It’s lightweight, which makes it less likely to clog pores, and has a subtle, natural scent that you may find appealing. Grapeseed oil is another great choice as it’s very light and non-greasy, making it ideal for massages. It’s rich in Vitamin E, promoting healthy skin, and typically has a mild grassy scent. Sesame oil can be beneficial as well, especially in Ayurveda for its warming properties. Its viscosity and nutty aroma might be stronger, though, so consider if that’s to your taste. Mixing oils can be a good idea if you’re wanting to tailor the texture or aroma to your preference. For instance, blending a lighter oil like grapeseed with a thicker one like almond oil may create a balance that suits you better. You might also incorporate essential oils such as lavender or eucalyptus to enhance aroma and overall experience. So, it would be prudent to test small amounts of different oils or combinations to find what suits you and your partner best. Each oil has its unique benefits, but ultimately the best choice aligns with your tactile and aromatic preferences.
