best way to wash hair

Riya

I am really confused about the best way to wash hair because lately, my scalp feels super greasy like after only a day of washing it which is totally not normal for me. I used to be able to go three days without feeling like I needed a shower but now I’m like struggling to keep it fresh. I’ve tried different shampoos and even switched to a sulfate-free one thinking it would help, but still no luck. I read somewhere that the best way to wash hair involves massaging the scalp properly but honestly, I’m not sure I’m doing it right. Am I supposed to scrub really hard?! And what about conditioner? Do I even need to use it every time? I sometimes leave it on for too long or not long enough. Ugh, this is frustrating. I’ve also noticed that my hair tangles like crazy now, and I’m wondering if that’s linked to how I’m washing it? Is there a specific technique or routine that’s recommended? Like, should I be rinsing with cold water at the end? I saw that somewhere too. What's the best way to wash hair without messing it up even more? I just want it to feel clean and look nice again!

When washing your hair, the key is to find a routine that balances cleansing with maintaining your hair and scalp’s natural oils. The first thing to consider is how often you’re washing your hair. Washing too frequently can strip your scalp of oils, which might make it produce more oil to compensate. Try extending the time between washes gradually, maybe by adding a day to your routine and using a dry shampoo on off days if your scalp gets oily. When it comes to actually washing your hair, the technique does matter. Focus on the scalp rather than the length of your hair. Use your fingertips (not nails) to gently massage the shampoo into your scalp to remove buildup. It’s not about scrubbing hard but being thorough and gentle. As for conditioner, it’s usually best to apply it to the ends of your hair where it’s driest, and not necessarily every time near the scalp if it’s already oily. Leaving it on for 1-2 minutes is typically enough. Rinsing with cold water briefly at the end can help seal your hair cuticles, potentially reducing tangles and adding shine. With tangles becoming more frequent, using a wide-tooth comb in the shower can help distribute conditioner and minimize breakage. Finally, try air-drying your hair instead of using a towel to rub, as vigorous drying can cause frizz and tangles. Taking these steps can help improve how your hair feels and looks, keeping it clean and manageable. If these changes don’t help or the condition of your scalp changes, you might want to see a dermatologist to rule out any underlying scalp issues.
