Doctors’ responses
Hello Maria, I am assuming that your cycles are regular because you didn’t mention your menstrual history here.
Delayed periods with Urine pregnancy test Negative can be due to hormonal imbalance. Get these tests done: 1. CBC 2. Thyroid profile 3. Serum Prolactin
Hormonal tablets to get your periods can be started after these reports.
You can share the reports with me for further management. Take care.
1. Since your pregnancy tests have been repeatedly negative, the delay is not due to pregnancy.
2. Common reasons for late periods include stress, sudden weight changes, excessive exercise, thyroid imbalance, or hormonal conditions like PCOD.
3. Eating papaya or dates will not reliably bring your periods; they are natural foods but not medical treatment.
4. If this is the first time, sometimes cycles can be late by 1 to 2 weeks without any major health issue.
5. If your periods are delayed beyond 6–8 weeks or this problem keeps repeating, you should consult a gynecologist. They may suggest blood tests (thyroid, prolactin, hormones) and an ultrasound to check your ovaries and uterus.
6. Safe medications to induce periods (hormonal tablets) should only be prescribed after your doctor rules out underlying causes.
Since you tested multiple times with first morning urine after a full month and results were negative, pregnancy is very unlikely. Missed periods can be due to stress, hormonal imbalance, recent illness, or lifestyle changes. Please consult a gynecologist before taking any medication to induce periods, as they may prescribe hormonal tablets safely after ruling out underlying causes.
So, according to what you described, since your pregnancy tests are negative, further medications depend on how many times has something like this happened. If this is a single case in the past 5-6 months, then you can just take Tablet. Norethisterone 5mg BD × 5 days, stop on the 6th, you’ll get your periods. But if this happens often, you’re having irregular periods, then you need to get done CBC, TSH, FT3, FT4, FSH, LH, Prolactin Levels, Ultrasound of your Abdomen + Pelvis and then review.
Hello dear See delay in periods are usually due to hormonal alterations or physiological variation I think I’m your case it seems physiological variation I am suggesting some tests for confirmation Please get them done Serum prolactin Serum tsh Serum progesterone Serum RBS Serum prolactin Pelvic ultrasound Urine analysis Urine culture Pregnancy strip test beta HCG levels blood Vitamin d level Please share the details with gynacolologist in person for better clarification Please donot take any medications without consulting the concerned doctor Hopefully you recover soon regards
since all urine tests are negative, pregnancy is unlikely, but I strongly recommend one blood β-hCG test + ultrasound before starting any medication. If pregnancy is excluded, your doctor may prescribe a short course of progesterone tablets to induce periods safely.
Do not take “unwanted kit” or abortion pills without confirmed pregnancy it can cause severe side effects if you are not pregnant.
Thank you.
Hi Maria,
Pregnancy is not the reason for your delayed periods.
It may be due to ; Stress or anxiety Hormonal imbalance (thyroid issues, PCOS, high prolactin) Sudden weight gain/loss Excess exercise or lack of sleep Nutritional deficiencies Recent illness, infection, or travel
🛑Don’t self start period inducing pills without a doctor’s advice, as the cause needs to be clear first.
Wait for one more week. If still no periods, check 1.Thyroid profile 2.Fsh/LH 3.Serum prolactin 4.Pelvic Ultrasound
And consult a gynaecologist in person.
✅ For now, no urgent medication is needed.
Eat healthy and stay calm dear . Feel free to talk. Thank you
A delayed menstrual period can be stressful, especially when you’re facing uncertainty, but several factors could contribute to a delay. Common reasons for late periods include stress, significant weight changes (either gain or loss), excessive exercise, hormonal imbalances such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid irregularities, or even just a change in your usual routine. Sometimes, periods can be late due to natural cycle variation. Given that your pregnancy tests have consistently been negative and it’s now over a week past your expected period, it’s worth considering these possibilities. Medications might not be the first step here; however, before considering any medication to induce menstruation, it’s important to identify the underlying cause. Please consult with a healthcare professional to evaluate your situation thoroughly. They might recommend getting some blood work done to check your hormone levels and rule out possible endocrine issues. In the meantime, try to manage stress through relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation and ensure regular balanced meals. If your periods remain irregular or absent for several cycles or if you experience other symptoms like significant weight changes, sudden excessive hair growth, or acne, you should definitely seek a medical evaluation. Such symptoms might indicate conditions like PCOS or thyroid problems that require more directed treatment. Remember, self-medication without professional guidance, especially with hormonal treatments, might not be safe or effective.
