How can i increase my height at years old - #29288

Dev

I am really worried about my height since I just turned 18, and I'm not as tall as most of my friends. Last summer, I went to the doctor because I felt super self-conscious, and during that visit, he said that I might still have some growth left, but I was skeptical. Now, I keep thinking, how can I increase my height at 18 years old? I did some online research and found mixed info about things like stretching exercises, nutrition, and even posture. Like, could me doing yoga help somehow? I am already trying to eat more protein and calcium, you know, since I heard those are good for bone health, but I am not sure if that's enough. Do you guys think there's really any way to increase my height at 18? I mean, should I be doing something specific or taking any supplements? I'm kind of desperate and not willing to accept that this is it for me height-wise! Confused about whether I should be looking into growth hormone treatments, too. Has anyone else struggled with this or found anything that actually works? How can I increase my height at 18 years old? Just want to hear what you all think.

I am currently working as a urologist and kidney transplant surgeon at Graphic Era Medical College & Hospital, Dehradun. It's a role that keeps me on my toes, honestly. I handle a pretty wide range of urology cases—stones, prostate issues, urinary tract obstructions, infections, you name it. Some are straightforward, others way more complex than you expect at first glance. Every patient walks in with a different story and that’s what keeps the work real for me. Kidney transplant surgery, though, that’s a whole different zone. You’re not just working on anatomy—you’re dealing with timelines, matching, medications, family dynamics, emotional pressure... and yeah, very precise coordination. I’m part of a team that manages the entire transplant process—from evaluation to surgery to post-op care. Not gonna lie, it’s intense. But seeing someone who’s been on dialysis for years finally get a new shot at life—there’s nothing really like that feeling. In the OR, I’m detail-focused. Outside of it, I try to stay accessible—patients don’t always need answers right away, sometimes they just need to feel heard. I believe in walking them through what’s going on rather than just giving reports and instructions. Especially in transplant cases, trust matters. And clear, honest conversation helps build that. Urology itself is such a misunderstood field sometimes. People ignore symptoms for years because it feels “awkward” or they think it’s not serious until it becomes unmanageable. I’ve had patients who came in late just because they were embarassed to talk about urine flow or testicular pain. That’s why I also try to make the space judgment-free—like whatever it is, we’ll figure it out. At the end of the day, whether I’m scrubbing in for surgery or doing OPD rounds, I just want to make sure what I do *actually* helps. That the effort’s not wasted. And yeah, some days are frustrating—some procedures don’t go clean, some recoveries take longer than they should—but I keep showing up, cause the work’s worth doing. Always is.

Hi. I understand the anxiety about height at 18. While I cannot promise a magic growth spurt, let me give you the scientific reality and a practical action plan to maximize whatever potential remains.

· 🦴 The Hard Truth (Growth Plates): At 18, your long bone growth plates (epiphyses) are likely fused or very close to it. This is determined by genetics and an X-ray of the wrist/hand can confirm closure. Once fused, no supplement, yoga, or hanging will add inches to your skeleton. · ✅ The Silver Lining (Spine & Posture): Even if bone length is fixed, height appearance can change by 1-2 inches. This comes from decompressing the spine and fixing posture. · 💊 Supplements? Unless you have a documented Growth Hormone Deficiency (which requires a Stimulation Test by an Endocrinologist), NO over-the-counter pill or powder works. Save your money. · 🧘 What ACTUALLY Works Right Now: 1. Posture Correction: Slouching (Tech Neck) can steal 1.5 inches. Focus on chin tucks and chest stretches. 2. Spinal Decompression: Hanging from a bar (passive dead hang) for 30-60 seconds daily can temporarily lengthen the spine by reducing disc compression. 3. Deep Sleep: Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is released in deep sleep (10 PM - 2 AM). If you sleep at 2 AM scrolling reels, you are blocking the only natural window left. · 🏥 When to See a Specialist: Only consult an Endocrinologist for height concerns if your shoe size hasn’t changed in 3+ years AND you have not developed other adult male features (facial hair, voice crack). · 💡 Final Word: Focus on building a strong, broad physique in the gym. A wide back and shoulders (V-taper) create an optical illusion that makes you look significantly taller than a lanky, hunched posture.

I am a 2023 batch passout and working as a general physician right now, based in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. Still kinda new in the bigger picture maybe, but honestly—every single day in this line teaches you more than textbooks ever could. I’ve had the chance to work under some pretty respected doctors during and after my graduation, not just for the clinical part but also to see how they handle people, real people, in pain, in panic, and sometimes just confused about their own health. General medicine covers a lot, right? Like from the smallest complaints to those random, vague symptoms that no one really understands at first—those are kinda my zone now. I don’t really rush to label things, I try to spend time actually listening. Feels weird to say it but ya, I do take that part seriously. Some patients just need someone to hear the whole story instead of jumping to prescription pads after 30 seconds. Right now, my practice includes everything from managing common infections, blood pressure issues, sugar problems to more layered cases where symptoms overlap and you gotta just... piece things together. It's not glamorous all the time, but it's real. I’ve handled a bunch of seasonal disease waves too, like dengue surges and viral fevers that hit rural belts hard—Hanumangarh doesn’t get much spotlight but there’s plenty happening out here. Also, I do rely on basics—thorough history, solid clinical exam and yeah when needed, investigations. But not over-prescribing things just cz they’re there. One thing I picked up from the senior consultants I worked with—they used to say “don’t chase labs, chase the patient’s story”... stuck with me till now. Anyway, still learning every single day tbh. But I like that. Keeps me grounded and kind of obsessed with trying to get better.

Hello I totally get where you’re coming from! Height can be a big concern, especially during your late teens. While genetics play a significant role in determining your height, there are some things you can do to maximize your growth potential and improve your overall posture, which can make you appear taller.

### Here’s what you can consider:

1. Nutrition: - Protein: Essential for growth and muscle development. Include sources like eggs, chicken, fish, legumes, and dairy. - Calcium: Important for bone health. Dairy products, leafy greens, and fortified foods are great sources. - Vitamin D: Helps with calcium absorption. Get some sunlight and consider foods like fish, egg yolks, and fortified cereals. - Zinc and Magnesium: These minerals are also important for growth. Nuts, seeds, and whole grains can help.

2. Exercise: - Stretching and Yoga: These can improve your posture and flexibility, which might help you stand taller. Poses like the Cobra, Mountain Pose, and Tadasana can be beneficial. - Strength Training: Building muscle can improve your overall physique and posture. - Sports: Activities like basketball or swimming can promote good posture and overall fitness.

3. Posture: - Maintaining good posture can make a significant difference in how tall you appear. Focus on standing straight, keeping your shoulders back, and your head held high.

4. Sleep: - Ensure you’re getting enough sleep, as growth hormone is primarily released during deep sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours per night.

5. Supplements: - While a balanced diet is the best way to get nutrients, if you feel you’re lacking, consider a multivitamin. However, consult a healthcare professional before starting any supplements.

6. Growth Hormone Treatments: - These are typically reserved for specific medical conditions and should only be considered under the guidance of a healthcare provider. It’s essential to discuss this with a doctor who specializes in growth issues.

### Realistic Expectations At 18, you may still have some growth potential, but it’s important to have realistic expectations. Most people reach their full height by the end of their teenage years.

### Final Thoughts Focus on a healthy lifestyle, and remember that confidence and how you carry yourself can make a huge difference in how tall you feel.

Thank you

At 18, your growth plates may still be open, but they close soon after this age which means substantial height increase becomes unlikely. However, focusing on optimizing your lifestyle can be beneficial for your overall health and posture. Good nutrition remains crucial: you’re right about protein and calcium. Make sure you also get enough vitamin D, as it aids calcium absorption. While specific supplements promising height increase usually aren’t supported by robust evidence, eating a balanced diet is key. Regular physical activity, like yoga or stretching exercises, may improve posture and spinal alignment, which can enhance your appearance of height rather than increasing your actual height. Adequate sleep is vital since growth hormone, which helps in development, is mostly secreted during sleep.

Regarding growth hormone treatments, they are typically reserved for diagnosed growth deficiencies and not advisable without medical supervision due to potential side effects. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional before considering such treatments. Most online tips for height increase, particularly those promising fast results, should be approached with skepticism and caution to avoid false hope or unnecessary expenses. While it might be frustrating, try to focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle which can enhance your physicality and confidence in many ways beyond just height. Lastly, if you have ongoing concerns about your growth or hormonal issues, discuss them further with an endocrinologist, who can provide more personalized medical insight and guidance.
