bleach or facial which is best - #12742

Shivam

I am freaking out here because I've been trying to figure out if bleach or facial which is best for my skin. Like, last month I had this horrible breakout and my friend suggested bleach because she said it cleared her skin fast. But then I talked to another friend who swears by facials and says they’re way gentler and better for long-term skin health. I'm just confused, because I did a patch test for the bleach, and my skin reacted a bit, like it was red and irritated, but I can’t stop thinking about how fast it worked for my friend. Ugh, my skin is also super sensitive, and the thought of having to deal with burns or irritation scares me. The last time I had a facial, it felt relaxing and my skin looked nice afterwards, but my breakouts didn't really improve like I hoped. I’m kind of torn here—bleach or facial which is best really? Are there specific situations where one is clearly better? Do you think it’ll help my dark spots or just make them worse? I know everyone's skin is different, but any advice would be helpful since I feel like I'm running out of options and time!

Doctors’ responses

Deciding between bleach and facials can be confusing, especially with sensitive skin. Bleach might work quickly for some, but using it on sensitive skin, especially if you’ve already experienced redness and irritation, might not be the best route. It can potentially exacerbate inflammation, leading to more issues, especially if your skin’s already prone to breakouts. Meanwhile, facials are generally gentler and there’s a wide variety available that can cater specifically to sensitive and acne-prone skin. They won’t give the instant results bleach might but are less likely to cause adverse reactions or irritations. For dealing with breakouts, dark spots, and sensitivity, a targeted facial treatment like those focusing on hydration, soothing inflammation, or even mild chemical exfoliations (like a professional lactic acid peel) might be safer. These treatments can improve skin health gradually and reduce breakouts without the risk of harsh reactions. Regarding dark spots, treatments like facials focusing on hyperpigmentation or incorporating ingredients like vitamin C or niacinamide could be beneficial over the long term. Of course, everyone’s skin is different, and if you’re unsure, consulting with a dermatologist or skincare professional might help tailor a treatment plan that works best for your specific concerns. Always prioritize protecting your skin barrier, keeping it moisturized and using gentle products, including a good sunscreen to prevent further dark spots.
