how to stop pimple from growing - #12782

Ananya

I am super frustrated right now. Last week I felt this weird itch on my cheek and thought nothing of it, but now there’s this monster of a pimple threatening to ruin my weekend plans. I’ve tried all the usual tricks like spot treatments and washing my face twice a day, but I don’t know how to stop pimple from growing. Like, seriously, is there some magic cream or method I’m missing?? The redness is getting out of control and I really don’t want to end up looking like a pizza face for that party I’ve been looking forward to. I’m also freaking out about leaving it alone since touching it always makes it worse, but what’s the deal? Should I pop it, or is it better to just kind of let it do its thing? Ugh, can someone please tell me how to stop pimple from growing before it explodes or something? Someone mentioned using ice to reduce the swelling—does that actually work? I'm desperate here! I just want my skin to calm down! Any tips on how to stop pimple from growing would be awesome!

When you’re dealing with a bothersome pimple, the key is to minimize inflammation, control bacteria, and support healing while avoiding anything that can make it worse. First, sticking with a consistent skincare routine is crucial; this means washing your face with a gentle cleanser twice daily without being overly aggressive to avoid irritation. Applying a warm compress a couple of times a day can help open up pores and promote drainage, which can sometimes reduce pressure from deeper pimples. In terms of spot treatments, products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid are effective since they help with bacteria and exfoliate the skin’s surface, respectively. Apply these directly to the pimple (and not all over) to reduce growth and redness. As for the ice, yes, it can help reduce swelling and redness for short periods, making a pimple less noticeable. Wrapping an ice cube in a clean cloth and holding it on the spot for a few minutes can be soothing. About popping it—don’t unless it comes to a head and you can gently encourage it with very clean hands to avoid introducing bacteria, otherwise “letting it be” is better. Touching or squeezing prematurely often leads to scarring and further inflammation. A good non-comedogenic moisturizer can also help protect your skin barrier without clogging more pores. Also, stay well-hydrated and try to avoid stress, as both can influence breakouts. If you find that pimples are a chronic issue, or they’re particularly painful or large, it may be time to see a dermatologist for more tailored treatment options, including prescription medications. In some cases, a cortisone injection might quickly calm an annoying pimple if a special event is looming.
