can we apply face pack after bleach - #13467

Riya

I am really confused about this whole face care routine thing. Last week, I went to a salon and got a bleach treatment for my facial hair because I wanted to brighten up my face a bit. They told me it wouldn’t be a problem, but after bleaching, my skin felt kinda sensitive and irritated. I heard from a friend that using a face pack can help soothe the skin, but can we apply face pack after bleach? Like, is it actually safe? I want to do it but I’m worried it could make things worse. Honestly, I used a pretty strong bleach, and now I’m not sure if my skin reacts in a weird way. Also, should I wait for a few days before putting a face pack? Or would it be okay if I do it immediately? I mean, I want to be careful and not mess things up even more. I read online that some face packs have ingredients that might irritate freshly bleached skin, but I really just want a hydrating pack or something. Help!!! Can we apply face pack after bleach without causing a disaster? Would love any thoughts, really trying to sort this out!

Doctors’ responses

Yes, you can apply a face pack after bleaching, but there are some considerations to keep in mind to avoid further irritation. Bleaching can indeed make the skin feel sensitive due to the chemical nature of the process, as it can disrupt the skin’s natural barrier and cause irritation. When choosing a face pack post-bleach, opt for one that’s designed to be gentle and soothing. Avoid those with active ingredients like exfoliating acids, retinoids, or astringents which can be too harsh for sensitive skin. Instead, look for face packs that are hydrating or calming, such as those containing aloe vera, cucumber, or chamomile, which can help soothe irritation and replenish moisture. It’s generally advisable to wait at least 24-48 hours before applying a face pack to allow the skin to recover somewhat from the bleaching process. During this period you should focus on simple skin care practices, like keeping your skin hydrated with a plain, fragrance-free moisturizer and using a gentle cleanser to avoid further irritation. Also, wear sunscreen daily as bleached skin may be more sensitive to UV exposure. Test the face pack on a small patch of skin first to ensure there’s no adverse reaction. If any redness, burning, or unusual discomfort occurs, discontinue use immediately. If irritation persists despite precautions, seeing a dermatologist would be wise to prevent further skin damage. Remember, your skin’s health is more important than rushing into treatments, so proceed with caution and give your skin time to heal.
