disappear cream - #15295

Om

I am really concerned about this weird rash I’ve developed on my arms and I’ve tried everything. A few weeks ago, it started with just a few small red bumps, and now it’s like this inflamed mess that won’t go away. I was thinking about trying that disappear cream I keep seeing ads for, but I wonder if anyone else has had any success with disappear cream for skin issues like mine? I've heard it can be great for scarring and discoloration, but would it actually work on something like my rash or just make it worse? The other day I applied some moisturizer and it literally burned, which freaked me out. I’ve seen some before-and-after pics and they look impressive, but what if it doesn't help me? I also wonder if the disappear cream is harsh on sensitive skin because what if I put it on, and it just irritates everything more? Like, is using the disappear cream a good idea, or is there a chance it could make my condition worse? I really want this to clear up before summer. Would appreciate any advice!!

Doctors’ responses

Attempting to use a disappear cream on your rash might not be the best idea, especially if you’ve found that moisturizers already cause a burning sensation. These creams often contain active ingredients intended for specific skin issues like scarring or discoloration. However, they may be too harsh for inflamed, sensitive skin and potentially worsen the rash. It’s important to first identify the underlying cause of your rash before applying any treatments that could aggravate it. Given that the rash has expanded beyond just a few bumps, there are several possibilities we might consider, such as contact dermatitis, eczema, or an allergic reaction. If your rash is inflamed and sensitive, it’s best to keep it soothed and avoid any products that could potentially irritate it further. Applying calming agents like aloe vera or using a gentle, fragrance-free emollient can help. Make sure that anything you put on your skin is hypoallergenic. Before applying any new product, patch-test it on a small area of skin to see how your body reacts. Seeking the help of a dermatologist might be the best course of action. They can provide a more accurate diagnosis and guide you on the appropriate treatment steps. If you notice severe symptoms such as swelling, spreading of the rash, or if it starts to ooze, the situation might require urgent medical attention. Finding out what triggered the rash in the first place can help in managing it effectively. Avoid potential irritants and allergen exposure if you suspect they could be the culprits. If your rash continues to worsen, even after removing suspected irritants, it’s crucial to see a healthcare professional who can offer tailored advice and possibly recommend treatments.
