how we can remove dark circles - #24501

Diya

I am super worried about these dark circles under my eyes. I never had them before, it’s like they appeared overnight. I work from home now and I stay up late, maybe that’s why?? But I also feel like I’m drinking enough water. I mean, I try to keep hydrated, but I guess I haven’t been sleeping well either, thinking of all these deadlines and stuff. I noticed that they’re getting worse, especially if I've been staring at screens for too long. I’m not sure if it’s just my age catching up with me or if there's something I should do. I even tried some creams, like those fancy ones that claim to help with dark circles, but honestly, I don’t see much difference. So, my big question is, how we can remove dark circles effectively? Are there any home remedies or anything that’s worked for others? Or do I need to see someone about this? I’m just tired of looking tired, ya know? Any tips would be super helpful to get rid of these dark circles for good!

Doctors' responses

Dark circles under the eyes are a common concern and can be caused by multiple factors. From what you’ve described, several aspects of your current lifestyle, such as not getting enough sleep, increased screen time, and possible dehydration even if you’re staying hydrated, could be contributing to the issue. Changes in your work routine and increased stress might play a part, too. Lack of sleep is one of the most common causes, as it can lead to a dull skin tone and make blood vessels under the eyes more visible. Aiming for 7 to 9 hours of good-quality sleep per night can help significantly reduce dark circles. Try to establish a consistent sleep schedule and create a relaxing bedtime routine. Reducing screen time, especially before bed, and increasing breaks during the workday can also help. Since prolonged screen exposure can lead to eye strain, take regular breaks following the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Hydration is essential, but sometimes, factors like caffeine intake or diet can impact your skin and under-eye area more than water alone. Reducing caffeine consumption and increasing fruit and vegetables can enhance skin health. Home remedies such as placing cool, damp tea bags or cucumber slices over your eyes for about 10-15 minutes might also offer temporary relief by reducing puffiness and brightening the skin. While over-the-counter creams can be useful for some, those containing ingredients like vitamin C, caffeine, or retinoids tend to be more effective. Ensure you’re wearing adequate sunscreen around your eyes to prevent hyperpigmentation from sun exposure. If these measures do not help and the dark circles persist or worsen, consider consulting a dermatologist or healthcare provider. Sometimes, underlying health issues like allergies or, in rare cases, anemia need to be ruled out or managed differently. Seeking professional advice will help tailor a treatment plan that best fits you, taking into account any further evaluation that’s necessary.
