can i apply onion juice on oiled hair - #24554

Vivaan

I am really confused about something and hope someone can help me out. Lately, I've been trying to address my hair thinning issues and heard a lot about using onion juice as a natural remedy. Like, I've seen so many videos and posts that claim it works wonders! Anyway, yesterday I decided to give it a shot after I had oiled my hair with coconut oil — which I usually do to keep it moisturized. Here’s where I'm stuck: can I apply onion juice on oiled hair? I mean, I was worried that the oil might interfere with the onion juice, right? Will it still work if I apply it after oiling my hair? Or should I wait until my hair is completely washed and dried? I even read somewhere that mixing oils with onion could be a good thing, but like, do I have to get rid of the oil first? I don’t want to mess things up since I've been putting a lot of hope into this onion juice thing. If anybody's tried applying onion juice on oiled hair, please let me know how it worked out! I need to know if this is a total waste of time or if I should keep going. Thanks a bunch!

Applying onion juice to oiled hair is a common question, and it’s understandable to wonder about how these ingredients might interact. The core idea behind using onion juice for hair is its sulfur content, which is believed to potentially improve hair strength and promote growth by enhancing circulation to hair follicles. Now, regarding the application on oiled hair: Mixing or applying onion juice after coconut oil (or any oil) might not inhibit the action of the onion juice itself significantly. While the oil might form a layer on your scalp and hair shafts, small molecules like those in onion juice can still penetrate the hair cuticle. However, oils can sometimes reduce the juice’s direct contact with the scalp, potentially affecting absorption to some extent.

If you want to maximize the efficacy of onion juice, applying it on freshly washed hair might be more beneficial. This way, the juice has direct contact with your scalp without any barrier. Yet, it’s also fine to apply it on oiled hair if you find that more convenient. Many people combine oils and onion juice in their hair care regimen without noticeable downsides, although individual experiences will vary.

Safety is paramount, so do a patch test before using onion juice if you haven’t already, even if it’s natural, to avoid any allergic reactions. If you’re experiencing significant hair thinning, underlying medical causes must be considered, such as hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, or scalp conditions. If your hair thinning continues, consult a healthcare provider. Your approach should align with your comfort and convenience; there’s no one-size-fits-all here.
