hair serum or hair oil which is better - #24631

Ira

I am really unsure about something that's been on my mind... I’ve been experiencing so much hair fall lately, like, it feels like I’m losing clumps when I wash my hair. A friend recommended using a hair serum but then I heard other people saying hair oil is way more effective?? I spotted the serum in a store but the oil feels more natural and I’m confused about which one actually works better. My hair has also been kind of dry and frizzy for ages— like, you know the typical bad hair day every day?? I don’t know if a hair serum or hair oil which is better, honestly! I tried some homemade oily stuff too, but it was so greasy, and I didn’t like how it left my hair feeling. Then I thought maybe a light serum would work better, but what if it just coats my hair and doesn't nourish it?? I even did a little reading and saw that serums can have silicone which feels like a quick fix rather than a solution!? My scalp’s kinda oily but the lengths are dry... Does hair serum or hair oil which is better depending on that? Really hoping to find something that actually makes a difference! Any recommendations would be super appreciated, like, what do you guys think works better.

Choosing between hair serum and hair oil largely depends on your specific hair needs and the issues you’re looking to address. Hair serums are typically silicone-based products designed to coat the hair, help smooth frizz, and add shine. They don’t penetrate deeply but can provide a quick, surface-level fix for things like flyaways. This might be beneficial if your primary concern is frizz or achieving a polished look before heading out. For your mention of silicone, yes, serums do often contain them, which can weigh hair down over time if used excessively but won’t necessarily address deeper issues like hydration or nutrition. That sounds like more advanced damage needing internal restoration. They might not contribute much in terms of nourishment and scalp health, however. On the other hand, oils can deeply penetrate the hair shaft and provide essential nutrients, which is why they are often touted as beneficial for nourishing dry hair. They can help with repairing damaged hair and providing a protective barrier against further damage. For your oily scalp but dry lengths, using a lightweight, non-greasy oil sparingly on the lengths and ends, like argan or jojoba oil, might work well as these oils are known for their nourishing properties without being overly heavy. If you’re looking for something natural, consider a regular routine of oil treatment before washing your hair. This could involve massaging your scalp gently with oil to boost circulation and potentially reduce hair fall. However, be cautious about how much product you apply to avoid buildup, especially on the scalp, if it’s already oily. You might indeed experience a different response depending on your hair type, so it could also be helpful to experiment with small amounts of a quality product and observe how your hair responds over time. Be mindful of any other factors contributing to hair loss, like nutritional deficits, stress, or hormonal imbalances. If hair loss persists despite topical treatments, it’s wise to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out underlying causes and to receive comprehensive care and recommendations.
