How to make my eye sclera white - #10039
I’ve had a yellowish tint in my eyes since childhood. I had yellow fever when I was 2 but the upper is white and the part exposed is yellow red. During my visa medical check-up, my liver was examined and results were normal. I’m still concerned if the eye colour is related to any health issue or if it needs treatment. and I don’t smoke or drink

Doctors’ responses
The yellowish tint to the sclera, generally the white part of your eye, can sometimes signal underlying health issues, but you’ve mentioned your liver tests came back normal, which is reassuring. Jaundice, a condition that results in yellowing of the skin and eyes due to high levels of bilirubin, commonly stems from liver issues, but if your liver function tests are within normal limits, jaundice becomes less likely. Chronic conditions such as Gilbert’s syndrome, which is a harmless condition affecting bilirubin processing, could potentially cause mild yellowness, but it typically does not require treatment.
Since you had yellow fever as a child, there might be lingering discoloration, but usualy this would not persist without ongoing signs of liver impairment. An ophthalmologist could evaluate you to rule out any possibility of local eye conditions that could contribute to the discoloration, like pinguecula or subconjunctival fat deposits, which can create a yellowish hue but are usually harmless. In some individuals, chronic dehydration or lifestyles that strain the eyes (like prolonged screen time) might influence scleral color too. Ensuring good hydration, a diet rich in fruits and veggies supporting liver health, such as those high in antioxidants, might be beneficial in the long run, even if it’s primarily supportive.
In cases there’s no evident abnormality, it may just be a variation in pigmentation or personal physiological trait. If there’s persistent concern, or if new symptoms develop, definitely consult with a healthcare provider for a more in-depth assessment to ensure no subtle health issues are overlooked. Always prioritize regular check-ups if you have prior conditions potentially relating to your liver health, even if past results were normal.
